Final round in the TVCA coming up. 7 teams still in the final’s race.

Ladder:

Gumeracha 144- Two wins from two against Paracombe this season
Paracombe 138- Possible SF preview against the Bears this week
Palmer 113- T. Rathjen in great form and the Bears are piling up the runs lately.
Cambrai 99.8- Must beat Gumeracha to play finals
Eden Valley 90.6- Must beat Mt Torrens and rely on Cambrai losing, and Lenswood not wining outright
Mt Torrens 90.0- Must beat Eden Valley and rely on Cambrai losing, and Lenswood not wining outright
Lenswood 87.7- Must beat Birdwood outright, then rely on Cambrai losing, and EV or Mt Torrens not winning outright
Birdwood 43- First innings points last round were their first of the season.

Looks like being the same top 4 as last season in the B grade (Mt T, Gum, Para and Palmer)

Hopefully the bad weather stays away.

Lobey failed to beat the Creeks Outright today in a tight finish.
After Lobey knocked over the remaining 70 odd needed for 1st innings points and also Col Hackett bringing up his ton, they declared with a small lead. Creeks playing 1 short which seems to be a regular occurence, lasted 36 overs in their 2nd dig with Goldy 60 odd leading the way. Lobey needed 115 off 15 overs to keep their season alive but fell short by about 10 runs 9 wickets down after needing about 14 off the last over.

Ashbourne after working their way into a good position against Strath had a collapse and lost comprehensively. Surprisingly Strath showed no interest in pressing for an outright result, being content to bat out the day and rely on beating Wistow in the last round to make the Finals.

Hahndorf are in the box seat to secure their finals spot after defeating Wistow today and will start warm faves to beat the hapless Creeks in the last match on the turf at the Creek. Depending on what players front up for the Creeks in this match, it could still go either way.

I see that Taity again saved Nairnes arse again as he did against the Creeks earlier in the season, coming in at No. 10 with Nairne on the ropes and can only imagine that it would've been a quickfire 40 to get them over the line.
Good luck to Nairne for having the depth that they have but their batting in recent times is surely causing them some concern leading into the finals as they have had their share of batting failures recently and relying on their depth of bowling to get them over the line.

Big win by Lobey, but couldn't quite pull off the outright to put them in with a good chance of playing finals. I'm still not writing them off....a good win against Nairne and a couple of other results falling into place (Strath beating Wistow & the Creek knocking off Hahndorf) and we could see the Lobey boys back in the finals again! I'm backing them in!

....I'm also wondering whether Nairne and Woodside are gonna tighten up in the semis and both go down in a screaming heap.....anyone willing to support me??

I agree with you Jackpot - why wouldn't Strath do a deal to push for an outright....surely they had nothing to lose?? Gonna wish they had if they go down to Wistow on the Hill this week!

Creeks 'A' Grade performances have been very frustrating since the mid 90s.
Have had some very talented players in that time but the problem they have encountered is the same as many other clubs. Players lacking COMMITMENT !!! When it comes to Footy, well that's a different story.
Just the 2 Premierships in that time , '04 & '07 is certainly an under achievment for them.

Dropping from Grand Finalists last season to wooden spooners in 12 months is quite embarrassing for the club but what can they do when players simply dont commit and to a lesser extent are unavilable due to work and footy commitments?

Creeks have 4 of probably the best 7 or 8 All rounders in the A&EHCA on their list but rarely having more than 1 or 2 play together proves very costly.
Of the 13 matches played, No. of games played by them as follows.
Johnson 10
Golding 5
Dellatore 4
Warren 2
The next tier of Creek players simply havent been able to cover their absence.

Interesting to note that last year when the Creeks made the Grand Final, there were ONLY TWO 50s for the entire season made by their batsmen and not once did they bat their overs out.
This year, their batsmen have made 1 century and 4 Fifties and batted their overs out twice and yet are BOTTOM.

Goes to show that solid and consistant contributions from all members of the team throughout the season are more important than having a few outstanding efforts. Commitment sums it up. Creeks will bounce back in coming seasons, the club is too proud and well supported not to.

Gonna be a real tight finish to make the four. Strath v wistow winner goes thru maybe? Gonna be a hot day on the hill Saturday could go either way. Looking at the ladder strath could well lose and still just sneak in. Hahndorf to push hard for an outright v creeks? Hopefully you hold them out "jackpot"! You would think all teams would rather finish third and play woodside rather then finishing fourth and having to play nairne at nairne. Been a long time since the razorbacks have lost a home final.
In the a2 grade back to back premiers nairne after sitting top two all year could well miss out on finals action. Having to play strath (who they haven't played since round 1 last season) with the winner making the four.
Soundwave festival on the last Saturday before finals, I'm sure this will affect a few teams selections thru all grades. Something else for you to contend with maybe "jackpot"?

Similar in B Grade. Any of the top 5 teams can finish in or out of the final four. There will be a few great games coming up, Milang V Wistow this Week should be a beuty with both teams seasons on the line, and Echunga must beat Nairne to stay alive.

A few thoughts leading up to the last days play in the A&EH minor round:

A great finish to the season is brewing after the first days play, with the only certainties being Nairne finishing top and Woodside 2nd.

Nairnes 212 might find them a bit short if Sziller, Wimberley and Hackett can bat until tea - especially as the Razorbacks gifted the Tigers an extra 22 overs to get the runs. The Tigers can sneak into 4th with a win but only if Hahndorf cant stop The Creek!

Straths big day out with the bat on "The Hill" will prove too big a score for the Echidnas to run down. The Stallions would go into the Semi against the Warriors with high hopes too, Woodside are well known chokers and havent beaten Strath this season.

Woodsides lacklustre bowling effort against the Bulls may cost them taking winning form into the Semi - but if Snoad, Wingers, David Collins or Big Slim can get going then who knows - they could pass the score by tea!

Can Langhorne Creek finish the season off, changing the structure of the final 4, by chasing down the Germans 241? It all depends on T Johnson and S Golding... but going on this seasons form the Magpies should win and play the Razorbacks in the Semi.

i'm still here O.F.
Ashbourne at last fired with the bat after disappointing most of the season. Willy to spin them to victory.
Strath at last fired with the bat after disappointing most of the season. Cuzzy to spin them to victory.
Hahndorf at last fired with the bat after disappointing most of the season. Creeks to make 275 and WIN. :D
Nairne did their usual thing and get bowled out but still post a total thats good enough to defend. Their batting is ridiculously over rated especially by Bruce Phillips who stated that their batting line up would be the strongest in country S.A.

When would have been the last time that ALL 'A' grade teams batting 1st ALL made over 200 ?
A very rare occurence indeed me thinks.

Thoughts on the HCA?

It looks like Lofty and Onkas battling for 4th spot with Lofty most likely.

Final TVCA Ladder:

Gumeracha 158- Only one loss for the year.
Paracombe 141- 3 straight first innings defeats heading into finals.
Palmer 127- In form heading into finals.
Mt Torrens 105.1- Also in form.
Lenswood 103.8- Unable to pull off outright v Birdwood in final round.
Cambrai 103.0- Drop out of the 4 after 2 losses to end season
Eden Valley 95- Up and down year ended with a loss to Mt Torrens in a “Feb Final”.
Birdwood 49- Will win a few games next year.

So it’s the same SF match ups as last season. Gumeracha should be too good for Mt Torrens, who have done well to make finals after spending most of season in 7th spot. Palmer are fresh off a win at Paracombe so will fancy their chances of turning around last season’s meek SF effort at the ground. Pirates batting has gone missing of late. I think they’ll turn it around this week though.

Also the same top 4 as last season in the B Grade with Mt Torrens, Gumeracha, Paracombe and Palmer. Interestingly the same 4 clubs have occupied the SF spots in both grades since the “revamped” comp began last season.

Been hearing a rumor recently that Michael Harden is set to join the Nairne Razorbacks next season. Can anyone give me some background history on this guy?

After posting 270 last week Ashbourne bowled Woodside out for about 120 with the wickets being shared amongst the bowlers. A good win by the Bulls and very positive signs for next season. Other results?

No, it was a good deck. Ashbourne made about 5/180 odd in their second dig.

Gum 207 v Mt Torrens 1/3
Paracombe 8/293 v Palmer

Looks like it'll be a rematch of last year's GF.

Mt Torrens to play Paracombe in the B Grade GF.
