Good to see the forum's woken up.

Only took three days.
'People are not stupid. They know when they are being conned. And two reserves teams operating in a League competition will reduce it to a farce, a competition without a soul.'

Yes, ATO debt will be paid off in full by EOFY12/13.

So good news.

Exactly . Abd ofcourse jh would need that explained to him. I'd love halbert to ask that at an Agm I attended.

Vested interests john or are we to believe that was just something that crossed your mind.

I disagree with the sentiment you're implying, that people want to throw in the towel...

... however, your supposition that it would drag the competition down etc remains true. I don't think having reserves side would necessarily be good for the competition, but I also think it might happen regardless.

Many fans (of not just Sturt) would side with the idea of keeping the clubs identity as a reserves side to an AFL team as opposed to just disolving completely and never competing again.

Of course, many would prefer to die with dignity (as they would see it).

I'm really torn on it. But as I've said above, I support investigating it. I'd like some facts from which to base my decision on...

Thanks for the $$$ report CS and the explanation of the various terms - I have only basic home accounting skills - good enough to beat my family at Monopoly -and AGM reports usually dazzle me so I appreciate your time and effort in breaking down the numbers.
Sturt have to do SOMETHING. The SANFL has to do SOMETHING. I don't want Sturt to continue their current mode of survival and collect another five wooden spoons and quietly fold when no one cares - I'd prefer death with some dignity. I don't want to become an AFL reserves team - the Sturt league team playing in the SANFL should be trying to win every game and a premiership - not losing games because the Crows are experimenting and want to see how Tambling plays at full back for a month. But the Crows reserves option may have to be explored if there is no other means of the club staying alive with any sort of respect.

Would being a reserves team engender any respect for the original club, which exists in name only?

The fact sturt fans are willing to endorse this option doesn't bode well for the sanfl comp.

Who would of picked sturt fans as the sell outs ???

Id personally rather merge with another SANFL club then become an AFL reserves side.
As for the salary cap it should be scrapped not slashed.
As it is the players get paid a pittance at SANFL level, no wonder guys head to ammos or country footy

Good write up CS Bowes?

I spoke to a past player who said to me that Sturt were 2 days before xmas of closing there doors.

I do wonder how a club can get so far into debt, especially with our club getting further and further every year.

Where do you think the club will be in the next 1-2 years CS Bowes?

Great write up CS!!

Sturt can't become the Crows reserves, it would be just delaying the inevitable and would hurt the SANFL comp on its way.

If the club did become the Crows reserves side it would lose its identity completely within 3-4 years, eventually the name, logo and guernsey would eventually go as we have seen in the VFL.

I hate to say it as I don't want to see any clubs fold or merge but could the West Sturt Blue Bloods be on the cards.

Halbert = sellout

Again, I don't think we're selling out, its a desparate situation and people are just looking anywhere for possible answers. No one is putting forward the Crows option as option No.1, people are just saying we should explore it.

That's due diligence there, we'd be stupid to not even look into it, whether we go down that path or not. The SANFL has to look at the league as a whole and ask itself whether it wants to save the league or save the AFL teams.

Plenty of money has gone into them, but I don't see much being invested into the clubs. The SANFL has to stand up to the AFL, when it comes down to it, they need the Crows / Power, we should use that as leverage.

Sorry... no can do... for a couple of reasons...

(1) I think I know the name of one company, but I'm not 100% certain, so it'd be wrong to name them.

(2) I think the club should do that themselves.

I do wonder how a club can get so far into debt, especially with our club getting further and further every year.

Where do you think the club will be in the next 1-2 years CS Bowes?

Personally, I think the members and supporters will rally and raise around $250K-$350K this season and that will stave off any immediate requirement to close doors, merge or become an AFL reserves team.

We then need the board to come through and turn that $600K plus loss from 2012 into a $200K profit and have that knock off some of the debt tpp. If the board fail to come through with that, then the only hope you can see for the club is a major benefactor bailing them out or the league bailing them out.

In summary, I don't think the supporters can save the club. I think only the board can. So if they fail to do their job, then I think Sturt will likely play its last season around 2015...

... if that happens, I reckon you'll have an 8-team comp with 2 AFL reserves side included.

Who else goes to the wall to make that happen, I'm not sure.

It is a pity their plan to play some key home games under lights at Norwood fell through.

If the issue of beer pourage rights is the key
could they look at Richmond
or even a "neutral" Thebarton as an option?

Great write up Bowes, you've not only given an account but an interpretation also, so you've put your balls out there for anyone to take a kick at so we can have at least one perspective of the AGM.
Thanks.
Crows reserves? As a few others have observed, it's like another club running around in your colours except worse, it's another club's SECONDS running around in your club's colours. What's the point? If they ever won a flag the most I could claim in the way of happiness would be that a team wearing blue won the flag, and Iike the colour blue. But so far as the old tradition of love for the club, guernsey and all that, it just wouldn't ring true anymore. I reckon I'd follow Carlton if such a thing happened. For my SANFL fix I reckon the Eagles, as their birth date would be closest to our death date, then again maybe South for the fact that we were born out of their territory, and they look
like Carlton.
Before any of that I could spare a few dollars to keep us afloat.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

So could fitzroy members . It's all about what the "league" wants.

And trust me when I say we(SANFL) seem committed to suicide .
