Port Augusta is actually a good spot. The wharfeside shopping precinct with Big W and Woolies is clean and modern. Easy safe parking etc. hospital is large and well equipped. Movie theatre is good. Great golf club. Airport works a treat. Some nice pubs, all the fast food joints, car dealerships etc etc. I'm not saying I could live there but as a service centre it is awesome.

Yeah you didn't mention the people lol

I spent the last 2 nights there, stayed at the Majestic Oasis right next to where you're talking about, Tues morning and this morning I went for early morni ng walks (still dark) and I was a bit worried when I left the security of the Oasis, in the end I felt vsafer than walking in Adelaide, in the 6+km I walked this morning 90% of others I saw out and about were woman, most jogging or walking by themselves, there was also a group of woman with a personal trainer on the park just below the stairs to the bridge, it was without a doubt the best place I've stayed in Rural SA for years to do early morning walks

In the 17 years I have been travelling through and staying at Pt Augusta regullary it has come forward a very very long way, I'd rather stay there than Pirie or Whyalla now

We don't want you here anyway, just joking. If you are up for an experience then stay at the Hillsview caravan park in Pirie, read the reviews online :D

Port Augusta is safe between 6am and 8pm but you wouldn't catch me out on the streets at night...some interesting characters to say the least.

I like Handball, awsome game to play, should be in the Olympics still aswell as Gymnastics.

As for Wrestling that should still be in, it was one of the first Olympic sports, why get rid of it?

It might even have been in the original Greek Olympics, although the competitors would have had to be naked...

I just looked at some reviews for Hillsview, and you're right, it would be an experience you'd never forget.

I've got as close to Hillsview as I ever wnat to get just drivingb on the Highway, when I stay @ Pirie I stay at Bentleys Cabin Park, if I couldn't get in there I'd go to the John Pirie, after that I'd comute from another town.
I honestly don't miond staying in either Pirie or Whyalla, just that Pt Augusta (in the main) has improved 1000% in the last 15-20 years, I used to stay at the Pastoral Hotel years ago, loved the rooms, loved the pub, but after dark I wasn't game to walk out the motel room door.

I've never felt uncomfortable in Port Augusta or Port Pirie day or night but I'm not so confident in Whyalla.

When I'm about 60 metres from the bus stop, and there's 3 people waiting at the bus shelter - I dont worry about running as I figure the people at the bus stop will hail any bus coming in next 30 seconds..but they don't hail it and bus goes straight past

Agreed squids. Sensationalist headlines aren't doing anyone any favours. This has been handled badly from day one, but what do you expect when a government gets involved.

yep its annoying as hell especially the way our media is. But you have to remember that there is a federal investigation and there just about to start making arrests. Essendon weren't suppose to come out and have there media conference, also be interesting if it comes out who tipped them off.

Work is giving me the sh1ts at the moment. My boss has taken two thirds of my hours and given them to some newbie. Tough times at home now, it seems. Luckily my wife is being really good about it.

Yeah, but that's at Parafield in an industrial area - not set amongst the lush leafy streets of Prospect and Burnside by golly ;)
