Question for everyone... Can you be given out handled ball when you're at the non strikers end? I was umpiring and gave it not put because it can't be handled ball and it wasn't obstructing the field as the non striker was not attempting a run as he was stagnant, behind the crease.

Common sense says not out but I think any time a batsmen picks up a 'live' ball it is handled ball

Salisbury west lack common sense so that explains everything. I genuinely thought it was not out, I thought it was handled ball at the strikers end if the ball is moving. The ball was stagnant at the non strikers end. Non striker picked it up and gave it to the bowler.

Sorry. Plus the bowler touched it in his follow through. Non striker in his crease, ball had stopped moving, non striker picked it up.

I could be wrong but that's my take on the rules.

I wouldn't have given it out either, the only time I would is if it was at the batsmen end and it was going to hit the stumps, or if they handled it obstructing the field and interfering in a wicket opportunity.

Pretty sad if people are seriously appealing for handled ball at the non strikers end in div 3 pdca

If as is described would be disgraceful in international cricket but always two sides to a story so will reserve my opinion until Grahaml gives his take on it

No not ball handling. Think you will find the laws of cricket were adjusted for ball handling so it basically reads now you can only appeal or be given out if you play at the ball to avoid it hitting the stumps.

Picking it up when there is no chance of it getting you out doesnt count.

Rosies pulled of another nail biter over a gallant units today, winning by 2 runs with two balls to spare. Dave Ritzema anchored the innings with a patient 95 and was well supported by his team mates.

This did happen after the worst umpiring not out decision I've ever seen was made. Ball hit the batsman's glove and handle, popped up in the air and was caught low down by the wicketkeeper who moved forward. Umpire "didn't see anything". Disgraceful. The game then degenerated into non strikers trying to intimidate guys, threatening to walk off the field. The particular incident Froffies is talking about was one guy appealing out of frustration to then have the umpire making up rules to say it's not out. Had he said, as he should, that it's out if the appeal is upheld, no doubt it would have been withdrawn.

To clarify

1. Out Handled the ball
(a) Either batsman is out Handled the ball if he wilfully touches the ball while in play with a hand or hands not holding the bat unless he does so with the consent of a fielder.

In the more important battle, F. McVeigh was dismissed by Grahaml.

hardly choked. we got the win we needed first innings. we are looking to steal 4th from north pines, unfortunately for us i believe they won today which doesnt help us. we gave ourselves as many overs as we possibly could, made a declaration which kept both sides in the game coz really if you guys won on the outright it had no bearing on our season anymore, that was the thinking otherwise we wouldnt have delcared n would have batted you out of the game. we are purely aiming for 4th. we went into the 2nd innings looking for points, n possibly an outright with a bit of luck. you boys getting the outright didnt really concern us all too much. "#bowledoutforsweetfa" refers to what? we didnt get bowled out second week...?

but nevertheless it was a great game of cricket actually. both team rewarded for aggressive cricket throughout the game. started off with CU getting the early running knocking us over cheaply, then us taking the initiative bowling CU out even cheaper. we then batted 2nd dig n lost a few early so it looked like CU were back on top. then a couple partnerships n a D.Stevens 50 swayed it back into our favour. then CU came out aggressively, chased hard n got rewarded for taking some risks. week one 18 wickets fell in 70 over 120 runs. week 2, same players on the same ground in similar conditions n about 350runs were hit from 70 overs for only 14 wickets i think. funny old game isnt it
