Mallee thoughts on Riverland game

Postby Dogwatcher » Thu May 17, 2007 5:06 pm

RIVERLAND v MALLEE at Renmark

The Mallee team travel to Renmark on Saturday to attempt to reverse the narrow loss to the Riverland at Lameroo last year. There are 12 new names in a 22 man squad coached by Luke Hocking and there are also many familiar faces.
Wade Nickolls has again been appointed Captain and will lead the ruck. Sunyl Vogt & Luke Remfry have been named as Vice Captains.
Jarvis Webb & Chad Nickolls will support Wade Nickolls in the ruck & also provide plenty of size in the forward line. Matt Schilling is a mobile centre half forward & Shaun Holland is a proven goal kicker. The midfield duties will be shared by Sunyl Vogt (SA Country player in 2007), Ashley Masters (hard running midfielder), Kevin Wyatt (clever ball user), Brad Zerk (strong under the packs), Luke Remfry (proven Inter League performer), Justin Maloney (one of the best tacklers in country footy), Lachlan Richardson (fast developing midfielder) & Damien Fenoughty (high possession player).
Rian Crane (tall player with long left foot kick), Mark Vandeleur (opportunist half forward) & Tim Aloisi (extremely quick wingman) can work through the wings and half forward providing pace in the forward line.
Mark Gum and Ben Venning can play key positions in attack or defence, with Venning also an option in ruck. Matt Ridgway will be strong wherever he plays as will Mark Boothey. Brad Schroeder is a strong long kicking wingman / half back, while Clayton Sporn has been kicking goals for Murrayville at full forward.
Although quality players such as Chris Philbey, Josh Richardson, Shaun Walker & Dan Wohling are unavailable due to injury, the Mallee team is both balanced and versatile. Saturdays match will be the first for a long time without the Rodney Maynard factor, although Rodney’s influence will still be in the change rooms assisting Luke Hocking to once again conquer the Riverland team.

Hmmmm...hope it's not true. Would be a big blow for Wunkar and could have ramifications for the competition.
