Psyber wrote:Olson in SA and Kennett in VIC were able to reduce their state debts by selling assets because there were assets to sell then.
This time there aren't any to sell, so nobody can do a Kennett.
(Incidentally, the VIC government got some of the assets he'd got money for given back free of charge later.)

Jay: "Yeah, no, good actually. Listen Mullet guts, clean out your desk and faaark off and I'll talk to you later."

State governments have been running down and selling out public housing since the 1970s just as they have hospital services.Sojourner wrote: What is your mail Psyber on the future of the Housing Trust Stock in SA? The ALP are currently selling off a further 800 properties in addition to those already being sold to keep the Housing SA budget afloat. I suspect that they will farm out properties to OARS and Disibility SA and to Community Housing Co-ops then scrap the rest also and leave people to rely on the Federal Government rental subsidy and make their own arrangments with private landlords - who buy the old Housing SA homes no doubt?

Asked about whether he would take over the state Liberal leadership, Mr Downer said: "My position has not changed since the day this issue arose. I continue to support Isobel Redmond and people should get behind Isobel."
Ms Redmond yesterday dismissed suggestions Mr Downer was after her job and waved away questions about whether she would stand aside for him if approached as "wildly hypothetical".
