Reality is Westminster are on a slide and in a division far below where they should be in comparison to like Colleges.

Glad I wasn't at the helm.

Morell, overall it appears you blame the players for "taking unsustainable money from an amateur league football club". I disagree and think its a 'problem' of clubs trying to accelerate success through paying players.

Paying players does not cause clubs to die out, poor fiscal management causes clubs to die out. If it isn't a sustainable practice for that club they shouldn't do it.

If your club can more adequately achieve it's goals by not paying players, then don't; if not, then pay players.

The money for amateurs prob arrived in the early 80s when the SAFA came along

I find it hard to imagine that when MP were in the SAFA also, that they didnt pay players?

Wtf

could it be possible that the great champions that once played for your club who Morell and the likes absolutely worship in the history of the club, were actually paid to play there bahahahaha

morell makes a terrific point that its ridiculous that theres half ass hardly devine quality footballers being paid to play the game

i met a kid who thought he was suddenly the greatest footballer on earth cos a country club was gonna offer him 100 bucks a game and he simply had drive 400 kms a game to get it bahahahaha when its highly likely he'd struggle to get a game in henleys bgrade

Paying players in the SAAFL has been around for decades before the 80s.

Jetters you would not have the jewels to be at the helm. Just keep throwing your little sinister comments when the going is good.

And as for paying players. Its the nature of the beast an unfortunate part but very necessary. I think personally its got out of hand but when your trying to compete with country comps you have to at least have a payroll to try and entice.

its a shame that the country throws around big cash and then forces local clubs to pay a bit extra to keep some decent players...loyality went out the window and has been replaced by 300-600 dollars a game

Gatt, no-one forces clubs to pay the huge money.its up to the individual clubs to decide what they want to do.Personally I liked the Hope Valley model of promoting juniors from within rather than recruiting "star Players" who come and go when the next offer is bigger.Amazing that they are in Div 4,when a lot of higher paying clubs are below them.Perhaps there is still some loyalty out there ;)

Impressive numbers on the track @ Mitchell Park when I drove past Tuesday night. Would have been 40 plus.... Didn't stop as I had an important meeting 200 metres up the road...... ;)

I've known blokes who have taken $$ as they are uni students/or apprentices and have used the cash to help pay the rent. Doesn't necessarily mean they have no loyalty, for trying to set themselves up for life after footy.

people play football for 1-14 years....... you only study or an apprentice for 4 years tops....one would assume once they have full time employee they would then return to being loyal?

Not that impressive is it? We would have had similar numbers last year I reckon. Would think Thursday would have even more. Not all about the numbers, I am more interested in some of the quality of our new recruits as we do have a couple of gaps that require filling if we are to be in contention for finals.

Blokes don't pour beers, hold signs, lay bricks or fix gutters for spare cash anymore?

Probably a symptom of the spoilt generation as well I guess.

I don't have a problem with div 1 paying players, but div 6?
