Will South improve in 2013?

Yes South have improved under Ron- no question we have become far more competitive. Its been rather enjoyable going to a game thinking you are a chance to win ......, which is a big change from the days before Rons arrival.

Just bad luck, a few narrow losses and injury, compounded by a lack of depth stalled our progress in 2012.

Yes South will continue to improve. ..... the playing group and rusted on supporters and members deserve every bit of success they get.

Got a few back from long term injury and have recruited quite well , all things considered we have a lot better list than last year.
Especially now we have expunged ourselves of an over rated, overpaid CHF who sleeps with the light on. 8)

IMHO every club can make its case for being around the money this year, it looks pretty open once again.

Reckon it would be great to see South right amongst it (lol provided its not at our expense)

South looked like they were on the rise in 2011 when they eliminated the Bays in the finals but 2012 was a big backward step for the club.
Will they improve in 2013 ? mmmmmmm I think maybe but not enough to have any real chance of challenging for a flag.
I see West as the team who will fall down the ladder this year with Centrals and Eagles as the improvers.
Probably fair to say most teams are weaker than last year.
The key word for 2013 will be " DEPTH ".

Even though I would love to see West drop (because of the negative style of football), I think they will easily make the 5. Also expect Centrals too adopt a more negative game plan, especially if their recruiting turns out to be worse than it appears ATM. I also think some might be taking h78's delusional thinking about the eagles seriously.

No offence meant to South or their supporters but am I the only one that doesnt want to see teams like West and South in the finals so we get better crowds in September/October?

Yeah 5000 at Noarlunga would be a fantastic atmosphere compared to 10000 at the Bay or Norwood.
Home finals actually give me more of a reason to hope they dont make it and I live 15 minutes away from Noarlunga!
Would be an awful atmosphere down there compared to the grounds closer to the city. Would be a good BBQ though!

Wedgie i''d expect that comment to be posted by a stooge like holden78, how do you think Port,Centrals,Norwood etc got good crowds, they had, over time periods of continued success therefore attracted more spectators, more members. The same will happen to South, West etc with periods of continued success. As an old chap i recall Westies had no trouble pulling crowds in 1950"s early 60''s when they had Kerley and were building a solid following. On your logic why have the lower pulling crowds clubs in the comp at all let''s just have 6 clubs in the SANFL playing each so the crowd numbers look good..for about 6 weeks!

no, they were minor premiers, which in most cases is the best indication of which team was the best team that year.

So kick South and West out and have 7 teams then?

I am suprised with that comment to Wedgie as someone who lives in the South not wanting to see some success with them.

I went to the GF this year as a neutral supporter and thought the crowd was fantastic for a West v Norwood game.

If South get in a finals I know it will bring out the neutrals and long suffering fans in the woodwork.

Are you telling me the North games in a finals last year drew out the BIG crowds ??? Looked pretty average to me.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I can see South above Central at the end of the minor round and at the end of the season. Central have not recruited well enough and any fair dinkum Central member will agree with me on this.

Yes the crowds were poor for the first three weeks of the finals, but if you look back at the replays of the first three weeks North provided the majority of the supporters on each of those weeks. That very fact was mentioned each week on the ABC replay.

North would not have drawn as many supporters as Norwood in the Grand Final but if North had been good enough to make the Grand Final it would have ended up a bumper crowd.
