Quite enjoyed seeing the lads in action for the first time in 2013.

With Hinkley,Richardson,Hocking,Rehn,Carr,Edwards,Nicks and Healy all out taking various drills, we finally look to have the resources at the coaching level to develop the players we have with much more focus than previously was afforded.Hinkley was certainly in charge and I like his approach. Those of us who have had a hard arsed coach over the years would know what I mean. Go get a drink, you've got 50 seconds....! Move it! :D

Hombsch looks a great build, Mitchell a running machine while to nobody's surprise Wingard and Boak rated a special mention from Richardson after some competitive centre square work. Lobbe, Redden and Westhoff doing the bulk of the ruck work.

Brett Ebert went off with a hamstring, my eavesdropping heard it has been with him for a few weeks, Renouf still on limited duties with his knee, Cassisi and John Butcher were on light duties with Robbie Gray.

The lads are on Alberton at 9am tomorrow and Friday. Keep an eye out for a chunky bloke on his bike if you go for a look Carey... ;)

Anything to note re. our draft picks, such as wines, clurey and shaw?

Wines looks like a top 10 pick should, ready to go like Wingard was.

Didn't take note of any of the others, will do tomorrow morning.

Thanks for posting that GWW, was a great read.

Interesting to read BF posters thoughts and observations of Neade, seems that i may have underestimated his development and a few are already predicting him in our 1st 22 come round 1.

What are others thoughts?

I don't think he'll play Round 1, but may get a bit of game time in the NAB. If he did well there though, who knows..

He is an exciting prospect though, and could offer a lot in coming years with his defensive pressure. He is only short, but appears to make up for it in other ways.

I think he may have made the junior All-Australian side last year.

I think Wines will play round 1. I've read some good things about Clurey, I think he may play a bit this year, looking forward to seeing how he and Shaw go (I think Shaw will play majority of year in SANFL, but may debut late in the season).

Colquhoun seems to be impressing, as do the 3 new defenders -Hombsch (he and Neade, on face value at least look to be a steal for pick 28), Stevenson and Heath. Defence will definitely look different this year, and it appears Carlile is getting fitter. Competition for spots is a wonderful thing.

I don't expect us to be absolute world beaters this year, but I think there is some room for optimism that we'll show some significant improvement.

Lack of depth up forward (KPPs) and in the ruck appear to be our biggest obstacles to having a (relatively) successful season, in addition to the overall inexperience and youth of our squad. I would hope we will have a better year than last year with injury though.

Once again Kane Mitchell impressed in the running drills, leading the pack during the drills, even when they ran off to get a drink at the end. Won't stay a rookie for long IMO. Lobbe does a great job as a big man in the running, Redden on the other hand looks like he is pushing flat out to keep up.

Mason Shaw does look a likely type valleys, he has the build of a kpp already and probably only needs to add another 4-5 kg of muscle to be a genuinely big lad.

Brett Ebert was doing rehab, Johnny Butcher, Daniel Stewart and Robbie Gray still on light duties after ops, Salts in a moon boot, might have foot issues again....poor bloke.

Again Wingard stood out in full ground work, as did Mitchell, Pfeiffer as always runs hard and reads the play but even at training his skills let him down.

Physically the stand outs are Hartlett, looks strong. Carlile, looks fit. Schulz, looks trim. Wingard, looks bigger. Lobbe, looks fit and ready to go. We need him up and leading our rucks IMO.

Back to work next week.....bugger.

And congratulations to Alf Trebilcock who today received the Jack Titus award from the AFL for an amazing 45 years of voluntary service to the Port Adelaide Football Club.

I know Alfie through my son and his Grandsons baseball and a nicer bloke you won't meet. Well done Alfie, what an amazing contribution to the club.

Once again Boon, thanks for the review.

Im starting to believe that this is the season we may well see positive signs in the form of recruits playing in our 1st 22 and playing well.

We all expect Monfries and Hombsch to break into the side and add some depth, and Wines out of our draft picks to play in round 1. The general observation amongst posters from SA Footy and BF seems to be that on top of those lads, the likes of Stevenson, Heath, Neade, Clurey and possibly Mitchell (if upgraded) all look likely types to play senior footy this season.

Positive signs boys!

One thing we will have this year that we have not had for several seasons is pressure from blokes playing SANFL. We've given a couple of blokes another chance ( Mitchell, Stevenson ) and have got some genuine young talent ( Hombsch, Neade, Shaw, Wines, Heath ) who look like they will be SANFL league regulars right away.
