Our selectors are "f%$ked" - resting / rotating fast bowlers (those fit enough to play 2 tests in a row at least) and now they have got in early for April Fool's Day and picked Maxwell!

Yep I feel for Mitchell Starc, was just starting to establish himself at test level, gets 'rested' for the biggest test match in world cricket and then due to performances is probably back to being the 4th, 5th pacemen in line.

Warner was (is) a slapper also, who somehow got picked on 20/20 performances. Not much depth in Australian cricket atm.

Just having a look at Maxwells career so far of 15 games at first class level

Averages 42 with the bat, has a highest score of 103* which is his only hundred, has hit 8 fifties. Has batted 24 times and has hit over 50 9 times.

Bowling wise he has 27 wickets at an average of 33.81, best figures are 4/42 at a SR of 66.

This season his stats look like

vs SA- 0 & 0
4/42

vs NSW- 39
2/12 & 0/50

vs TAS- 51
1/33 & 0/41

When Victoria had the Aussie players playing at the start of the season such as Siddle, Pattinson, Quiney and Wade, Maxwell couldnt make their best 11.

If we are really looking for that allrounder then look at mitch marsh. He has made sheild runs and has played one dayers for aust. Also his bowling is good enough for a forth seamer. Just a thought.

Ripped his hamstring off the bone. Would be doing well to be walking at the moment. Despite that i'd still pick him ahead of Maxwell. Maxwell is a slogger who bowls very very part time off breaks. As has been mentioned earlier in the thread, Dave Hussey would do a better job with the ball and at least he can bat.

He did. Took a while before he could break into the NSW Shield side and when he did batted at 6 or 7 for a while. When he got his chance at the top he made a lot of runs. It wasn't over years and years like we've seen guys have to do in the past but at least he has done something to earn a shot. Maxwell can't say the same. Dud bowler. Handy slogger in limited overs cricket. That's it.
