Very sad, just yesterday I was thinking of him when I saw a close up of a pitch on tv thinking of him putting his key into it.

Sad and quick end for Tony. As much as he was anti-Aussie when commentating which was both annoying and entertaining - he was different and he liked to be controversial no doubt!

Sadly my hope of hearing him join Bill lawry for one more session in the C9 Commentary Box for Bills last test is now gone. With him going and Bill retiring the end of decades of C9 classic commentators is ending? You suspect Richie will have to be carried out in a coffin given he announced 3 seasons ago he was retiring then changed his mind and you can't see Chappelli going unless it is on his terms!

Not a huge fan as a commentator but his role in changing the game so blokes could make a living out of playing cricket was significant. 66 is way too young these days.

i will never forget his comment, a match at the SCG, and the camera panned out to a wedding. He thought his mic was off and made the mail order bride comment :)

there are so many other things that Tony has said and done that will be remembered

End of an era for cricket commentary. Loved him in the C9 box. Much better then the likes of Taylor, Healy and Slater.

yep i agree with this

I also believe that the older commentators are better observers of the game
