His slips fielding is underrated as well, I can't remember him dropping a single catch, not to say he hasn't but his a quality slipper

i draw some comparisons to Michael Clark, he is making huge runs at 5 but everyone is saying he should be batting at 4, why change something that was working well.

He moved down 1 spot in the order. Doesn't matter anyway, he seems to have one of those golden tickets.

In fairness to Watson though, his bowling probably holds him in the team by itself, unfortunatly thats saying alot about the quality of bowlers we currently have at test level.

I think with Clarke out injured proves my theory the selectors have got it fairly wrong the last 2 years.

We now have a bloke captaining the team whose role in the side is still unsettled!

Who is the next long term Australian captain considering there is a pretty strong thought Clarke will retire earlier than expected due to ongoing back issues!

Jokes aside right at this minute the next long term captain would either be Warner or Hughes!

I have to agree with you, i really cant see a long term option for captain except maybe Hughes. Dont see Davey boy as captain material..

Question: No one capable of leading the team, do you bring in an average player with quality leadership and captaincy qualities to take over as captain?

A specialist captain if you will..

Worse part is the next year is India(a) and then the double Ashes series, highly unlikely the selectors will give any 'youngsters' a go in such big series.

In Test Cricket, Australia has always picked their best XI first (even though some have those golden tickets) and then picked a captain from that XI.

Who would this Mike Brealey type be anyway in current domestic cricket?

Problem is with the current side and ages, we are set to have alot of captains in a short period once Clarke goes.

History shows teams struggle when having a high turnover rate of captains.

In my time watching cricket there has always been a pretty obvious next captain, this isn't the case anymore

I don't disagree. The next captain is not obvious from the current group.

I just can't see the Australian selectors changing their ways after however many decades it's been.

The last thing we want is the Australian captain not scoring enough runs or taking enough wickets to justify being in the team. he'd become the least popular player in the county a la Nathan Adcock.

There's not alot coming through the shield at this stage, selectors have probably got it right with Hughes and Khawaja, behind them there is not many 'young' guys in the shield.

There is Joe Burns but by all reports his a tad of an odd ball, real character in the changerooms but not captain material.

I'm hoping WA give Kutis Patterson gets a run in the shield sooner than later, also Nic Maddinson but he may need to move states to guarentee a game.
