Just spoke to Toasty and it looks like both teams will be sending out depleted line ups mpossibly playing the dreaded 13 a side. we have a huge advantage though with this being maybe our 6th 9.15 game :(

Food van and bar should get a good post game work out tonight.

Too bad the game wasnt postponed sooner, as then in theory both games could have been brought forward and the 9:15 slot not needed...

Speaking of the much maligned 9:15 timeslot - I recall last year in the finals, there were only 2 games scheduled for the Friday night - and one of them was put in the 9:15pm timeslot?! Surely for finals next year (or is it this year?) we should ensure that those games are played at around 7pm and 8pm etc. The late time slot last year may have resulted in one of our players being incorrectly called for a "throw" by a possibly tired and ready for bed ref... ;)

Just telling us to politely leave... Of sorts...
Good work to the port guys like toasty who did the right thing, but were let down by individuals & thuggery.
Was nice to the see pokey start swinging at a non retaliating opponent only to sheepishly walk away from the pack & let his mate take his straight red.

The message was as i said pathetic but it was equally matched by some of the antics i saw on the field and it does take 2 to tango. My great regret was that i had no bench as i would have removed several players for disciplinary reasons and that may have settled what became an out of control game. We may have won by 22 points but that wasnt good Gaelic Football in the end and i wouldnt have wanted kids watching that game.

As for the abuse of the ref, well the first time i got abused last week i handed out a yellow and it shut it down. The audible obscenities i heard directed at the ref last night were embarrassing and worthy of send offs. Some lucky boys not to be visiting the judiciary this week paticularly the guy who did the king hit

Wow sounds like I missed an eventful match!

From personal experience things said or done in the heat of the moment during a tense game can often lead to regret post match. I'm sure all the players would have left it on the park and moved on.

Bad by both sides imo. Ruined what was a decent contest in the first half (Port only down by 5 I think at the break). Na Fianna have some quality Irish guys who hold onto the ball as well as anyone.
FWIW I thought the game was well reffed. Annoys me when guys go on and on about decisions which have been made; or appeal to the ump after an inordinate amount of time (guys from all sides!).

Agreed. I would like to video tape some of the petulant behaviour towards refs so people can see how they look. If you try you can find some fault with every single interpretation, if you get on with the game and let the ref do his job the game will prosper.

This year i have heard a complaint about each and every single ref, EVERY SINGLE ONE.....TIME TO SHUT UP AND PLAY THE BLOODY GAME.

As for after the game i shook hands with the opposition coaches and opposition and never hold grudges post match. Was happy to have a beer with anyone after any game. Sh*t that happens on a field should stay on a field IMO.

Maybe next time if the ball goes in your forward line Milky will be forced to go near the ball. Having said that he still won't shut up...Winners are grinners, losers can please themselves

Give me 2-3 days & I should have an up to date ladder.

Any chance of a 7 a side ladder?

Also for those that play, next year should there be the possibility of splitting the 7s into 2 divisions?

There seems to be a wide cross sections of teams, I.e Taints who use it as training, flinders seniors who use it for older social players, and teams like the juniors who are learning the game. Maybe 2 divisions would allow teams with state league players to play competitive 7 a side gaelic, and the 2nd division allow teams to compete rather than getting flogged and potentially losing players from the game?

Um, you might have to wait a bit longer for a 7's ladder. Although I think Lynwood has been able to collate all that information & might be able to provide something much faster than me.

State league ladder for men is just waiting on the score from Sunday's Flinders v Irish game.
Women's ladder is missing Sunday's results as well.

Once they have come through Sa footy will probably be the first ones to see it!

An excellent idea and one that i would have implimented this season if i was competition manager but the lure of someone (THE AFL) actually paying me for my services and running of competitions as oppossed to the volantary running of 7s that i did at Gaza and at St.Marys meant that i didnt have the time or oppurtunity to make the comp two tier as planned before handing over to Dingo Pete.
I assume the hundreds of hours of work i did and making money for the association was tarnished by my ex colleague who performed some questionable money handling procedures. So there may be a grey area where profit margins and reward for effort have become a little foggy. I dont mean to speak in Riddles but i think 7s hasnt had as much support as it should have due to the fact that it hasnt been clear as to some how financially viable it is along with how good it can be for growing our game and breaking our game into divisions as it was some 12 years ago in State League when it had Norm, BJ and Seany Dunne working tirelessly and volantary.
I think its a great idea but it requires hours and hours of planning ,preperation and organisation and realistically someone that has the oppurtunity to watch all the games. The other problem it faces is the fact that a lot of teams are not organised till the final week prior to the season commencement. This makes it near impossible to gauge who will be there, start working on a draw and crunching all the other numbers and vital statistics.
The only way i can see this happening was if we once again had a development officer who could take on that role as part of their payment. I would happily perform the role of development officer again as i already teach Gaelic in schools ATM in upto 20 odd a year. So if anyone can weave their magic and apply for a grant for Gaelic Football to employ a D.O through the office of Rec and Sport things like 2 tear systems/divisions and competition managers who get a chance to watch every game and bar managers and all these other great ideas are only pipe dreams :(
Its always been a mystery to me how grants are allocated but if anyone has some skill in this area Please for the sake of our game help us get one

Plan was to run it in two comps this year but having 9 teams at round 1 ment a 5 and 9 team comp which would not be very interesting. Would have had two 5 team comps and had already started working on a draw for this with the top 5 from last year. Next year It will be two divs. This year we will have two finals series one with 1-4 and a second with 5-8 playing off against each other 9 and 10 if they want can play a match during the first week of finals if guys want an extra weeks run.
