Ranked number 1 in the World so losing to Number 3 would be a choke.
Dont think number 3 losing to number 1 qualifies as a choke.

Ah i dont think it works like that at all.

Maybe losing to number 7/8 might be a choke, Losing to number 3 in the world away from home is not a choke. Regardless they have won the series 1-0 and deserve that and the no 1 ranking

Think ahead to sri lanka.
Siddle, hilf, lyon and... I think mj bowled better than starc, but starc got the poles, and starc giving them a fair whacking.

I wouldn't get to critical of the series lost, remember it was only last season we drew a series New Zealand.

South Africa are number one for a reason, they are an extremely well balanced side with probably the best batting line up in the world and best bowling line up in the world.

Our side is very much a work in progress with question marks all over the place,

I hate losing just as much as anyone but we have pushed them to the 14/15 day of the series.

The second ranked side England was smashed by these blokes.

Here is my assesment of the series.

POSITIVES
Michael Clarke- batting brilliant, he looks a ready made captain, probably needs to bat at number 4 imho for the good of the side.
Ed Cowan- looks like his got the attitude and temprement to make it as a test opening batsmen.
Peter Siddle- his stats dont look great, but he leads this bowling attack with all the heart and gusto of an Australian fast bowler.
Michael Hussey- a very good series for a number 6 batsmen, will be hard to replace in a couple of years.
Nathan Lyon- has established himself as the countries number 1 spinner, looking forward to watching him at the SCG and then one day in the sub continent where finger spinners tend to succeed.
Our Fielding- we fielded very well this test series, you dont see to many good test sides who field badly.
South Africa- the respect they showed for Ricky Ponting in his final test.

NEGATIVES
Ben Hilfenhaus- struggled against the best, back to bowling round arm 120km pies
James Pattinson- has all the talent in the world but you cant bowl blokes out sitting in the grandstand.
Pat Cummins- see above
Lack of young cricketers to take Punters spot- name some batsmen 25 or under who could take Punters spot! not many options!

UNDECIDED
Dave Warner- his best is great and quick, his worse his very average, he looks like he doesnt know where he is at as a test batsmen, its alway a worry when people start questioning what number you should come into bat.
Shane Watson- his in our best 11 but where does he fit in the side, does he open, does he bowl, where does he bat????? So many questions over him.
Mitchell Johnson- he now has a longer run up but not alot appeared to have changed in the short amount we got to see of him.
Matthew Wade- his glovework was ok but did miss a stumping at the GABBA and a crucial drop catch in Adelaide, he had a couple of good innings but also got out with a few poor shots.
Bowling Lineup- Lyon and Siddle are certs, Starc has put himself around the mark but its a real lottery for that extra pacemen role with no real obvious choice at this stage.

I hate to say it but i have discovered a new found respect for the Saffies, i almost enjoyed watching their side!

Reasonably good summary whufc.
I'm a fan of Cowan's, but unfortunately to me he is still on the undecided list. He got a couple of really good ones in the first innings at Adelaide and Perth as all openers will do, but the disappointment for me was his inability to capitalise on good starts in the second innings of both games.

Your probably right, I just think our current best 11 is not good enough to win the Ashes, between now and then I think we need to find and develope some players to fit into this side.

imho Starc has the 'potential'
