2) With Watson back, there's the fourth main quick, and Lyon can still play for the alternative option.

Exactly what I was thinking MP, I think Lyon will play. Also, I think that'll be the team, I don't see the selectors changing too much. Although I'd like to see Hussey at 3 and Watson at six, to lessen his workload a bit.

Dan Christians suspension cost him a spot in the squad. Would have been picked before Hastings if he had a good game this week

I may be wrong but I didnt think Christians form had been great this season, his batting has been pretty ordinary.

From South Africa's perspective, Jacques Rudolph must surely be under the pump.

The Proteas should consider bringing in wicketkeeper Thami Tsolekile for Rudolph to free up A B De Villiers to concentrate on his batting. De Villiers batting average was much better before he took on regular keeping duties and he scored a century in Perth in 2008 when his team chased down 414 to win. Also he's a very good fielder.

Whilst Tsolekile didn't impress much with the bat in the 3 Tests he played a while back he can't do much worse than Rudolph. The rewards could be reaped in relieving De Villiers of the gloves.

Agree 100%
As ive repeatedly said AB's glovework isnt great either. Id always pick a specialist keeper over a part timer.

To play as what? A number 8 batter to take Quiney's bowling slot?

IMHO if Kallis doesn't come up then the backup keeper must come in. They'll need AB at his best without him. Faf batting well helped things but it'll be a different scenario in Perth and you just never know how a bloke might back up second time round.

I think Ponting would benefit a lot from coming in at 5. So far he's had to come in early with the ball moving that bit faster. If we can protect him a little longer he's still got the class to put pressure on the opposition.

Lyon should hold his spot is Watson comes in and can bowl. 3 specialist seamers and Watson should be enough seam bowling. Lyon seems to make the South Africans nervous at times. Given also that either Johnson or Starc look likely to come in that'll give him some excellent footmarks to aim at later in the test.

There is the possibility of the 3 bowlers being rested due to current workload from the past two test. With the two quicks bowling over a 100 overs and lyon bowling over 150 overs including 50 in the last innings in Adelaide. Hence the reason why 3 new quicks were named from the starting 11.

Yes I agree I think you will find Johnson, Starc and Hazelwood will come in for Siddle, Hilf and Pattison.
Watson in at 3 and will not bowl.

Siddle plays, i would take herat over fitness anyday.

Mitchell Johnson is as fragile as youR best bit of China, but as per usual the selectors won't pick bowlers in form they will go on some past results that happened back when man walked on the moon.

All the talk about Aus bowling line up, but IMHO I think the SAF attack holds the key to this test. Steyne, Morkel, Philander will all enjoy the WACA conditions. If Steyne fires in with the doctor behind him and Morkel/Philander up the other end getting the ball to rise off just short of a length will be nasty for Aus top order. Kleinveldt also plays as the laughable Tahir sholud never play Test match cricket again. Faf to provide a spin option if required.

Percentages say Clarke and Hussey are closer to a fail than runs, haven't done my home work but from memory Watson doesn't usually make runs in his first few tests back from injury. Love Punter but surely even he knows he is done.

AUS SAF
Cowan Smith
Warner Peteirson
Watson Amla
Ponting Kallis ??
Clarke Rudolf
Hussey AB
Wade Du Plesis
Johnson Steyne
Siddle Morkel
Starc Kleinveldt
Lyon Philander
They are straight to their word, they don't talk a lot of smoke and mirrors behind windows.

Hastings has been in great form of late.

Jackson Bird should have been picked before Hazlewood.

Surely Kallis won't play. A Grade 1 tear needs a couple of weeks to heal and he's hardly been keeping it elevated!

Jackson Bird should have been picked before Hazlewood.

Jackson bird plays on raging green tops every second game. The game last week finished inside 5 sessions. All the batsman around Australia are saying Hazlewood is bowling exceptionally well

Does this win the prize for the most biased South Australian comment on this site ever

Sheffield Shield 2012/13
Christian 9 wickets @ 41.4, 173 runs @ 21.6
Hastings 22 wickets @ 19.1, 200 runs @ 33.3

In Perth 2012/13
Christian: bowling 1/118, batting: 8 and 4.
Hastings: bowling 7/87, batting: 39.
