New Zealand have only ever had a handful of players who would make another test side. Good call though, Pocock was a dud.

Would be intersting to ponder who from NZ may have made the Australian side during their era.

The obvious ones..
- Hadlee
- M Crowe
- Shane Bond
- Daniel Vettori

Probably/Possibly
- Andrew Jones (may not have batted first drop for Australia in early 90's but may have got a gig at 5 or 6
- John Wright - good batsman throughout 80's
- Stephen Fleming - probably would have been on the fringe of the Aussie side during his era
- Ian Smith - probably would have made Aussie side between retirement of Rod Marsh, and emergence of Healy
- John Bracewell - he was a DH, but perhaps he would have made the Aussie side in his era.
- Chris Cairns - would have had some stiff competition, but probably would have made Aussie side.
-Glenn Turner - perhaps?

Others for consideration - Bruce Edgar, Ken Rutherford, Danny Morrison.

Brendon McCullum?

Fair point. Would nearly be our wicketkeeper if he was an Australian. Wiki says he only keeps in one dayers now. Not sure if he'd make our Test side as a batsman only.

Yeah I guess so, I suppose he'd be on the fringe of selection for when there are injuries, such as at the moment, to Shane Watson.

I agree, and surely he doesn't have days behind the stumps like Wade had today either.

For a guy who played a fair enough amount to really look at, Chris Harris was distinctly ordinary.
Floyd Reifer easily the worst captain in Test history.
Imran Tahir probably the worst South African player.

Come to think of it since the Saffers have returned to test cricket their spinners list is quite apalling.
Have a look at these spuds, apologies if ive missed anyone
Pat Symcox
Paul Adams
Paul Harris
Nicky Boje
Johan Botha
Imran Tahir

Admittedly though, Reifer didn't have much cattle to work with.

I agree with Harris, although he was quite good in ODI cricket (that's not the point of this thread, I know).

As for the worst Saffer player, Tahir is one of a handful of duds they've produced since readmission, such as the spinners Jim05 listed above. I'd also like to add Justin Ontong, Adam Bacher, Nantie Hayward, Charl Langeveldt and Andre Nel to that list.

Was a good stumping that one.
I just dont think he is that good, we were spoilt by Gilly and so now we tend to choose keepers not on their keeping ability but on how well they bat. I would think Wade wouldnt be in the top couple of glovesman in the country.

What a list. South Africa certainly haven't been blessed with any great spinning options since their return to test cricket.

Nor would he be in the top 7 batsmen...

I know things have changed over the years but I remember the days when a keeper was picked on their glovework and it didnt matter what they batted like, now we are seeing guys like DeVilliers that are rubbish with the gloves keeping at test level.

You kidding? he chest marked it then gathered it in his gloves then took the bails off. Sloppy.

Has been a bad series for the 'keeping purists as de villiers footwork left a lot to be desired hence he looked lazy.

If only Hartley could bat better, hands down the best gloveman in the country for the last 10 years
