SAAFL Division 7 2013

Postby Bigshow82 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 8:17 pm

I am lead to believe the way it will work would be: Uni SA play Div 7, Ovies plays Div 7R. When these clubs play away they play at the same ground. If you are to play them at their home ground your A grade play at Uni SA's ground and your B grade play at Ovies home ground. I am lead to believe they are not that far apart.
Maybe the B grade could start 15 mins earlier and the A grade 15 mins later to give clubs time to get between grounds. Not ideal but if it gives a new club and an old club the chance to grow then I'm sure we could all accommodate it.

Hmm the logistics of that would be very tough.. when do trainers, strappers, runners etc head off to the A grade? And to take things like strapping, water bottles, balls etc?

Clubs will just have to be more organized for one week a season. A graders can get strapped at the B grade worst case scenario. Most clubs have 2 trainers I would think so one trainer should be able to leave the B grade and head to the A grade at half time. As I said if when these clubs host home games they start the B grade 15 mins earlier and the A grade 15 mins later it should help with getting between the 2 ovals.

Sorry Bigshow82 if the league allows a 1 team club come in to Div 7, it again shows the low esteem they have for all the other clubs. Look how hard Smithfield had to work to keep 2 on the park. I must say that my admiration for them and Flinders Uni is growing daily. But that's ok, lip service from EM, maybe, maybe not.

I agree Yankman it's not ideal but I'm taking the stance that its November, the season doesn't start until April so anything can happen. Trying to take a positive spin on it. I will concentrate on what I can control and that is the happenings of my club, I can't control the decisions that the saafl exec make.

I think the new Uni SA side should play in the same C grade comp as Mawson Lakes' C grade

How does the points system work with players these days in the SAAFL?

How many points is a club allocated? and is there any leway given at all?

If UniSA seriously were to enter d7 with one side, why not just make them play their home games at Ovies? Or go half/half - half home games at Ovies and half at their new ground.

were you wrong morell?? :)
Maybe. I spoke to Dan Noske and he said he was very surprised as well. So if internal TTG people are surprised I guess it would be safe to assume that everyone would be surprised.

Would like to to know if has been a SAAFL directive. If so I would personally applaud them.

This surprises me and it's the first i'm hearing of it. I doubt it is a TTG directive but I wouldn't think the SAAFL can force TTG to go up to Div 6 because their own rules allow us to stay down.

Surely there is still some water to go under the bridge.

I think you might find that Houghton were prepared to go down and Ingle Farm might have already have used the option to stay up last year. Not 100% sure on the second
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

The UniSA guys are trying for two sides but I'm guessing this will be an establishment year and two will occur in 2014. I've long held the opinion that any a grade club should start playing in the lowest a grade division regardless of their results as that's where they're aiming to be. Stand alone single sides in C grade divisions don't reflect the majority of teams within these divisions by the simple fact that they're a grade sides in c grade divisions. I personally believe clubs like that should be on a timeline to step up.

Smithfield and Flinders Uni have copped a lot of flak but they're doing the right thing as they keenly aware of the level they need to achieve to be competitive and are actively striving to achieve it. They deserve kudos and respect for this. Ovingham get exposed to this level in a more gentle manner.

Worst comes to worst, much like 2012 and division 8, it becomes an experimental year by the league with the overall good and direction becoming clear to all clubs and any future mooted clubs. If it doesn't work at least it's been tried. To me it reads if you wish to enter the league this is the base level that the league and clubs expect you to compete at.

As an aside, Division 8 was a success in 2012 even if there were some problems with 8 reserves later in the year. It enabled two sides to travel together, off field help was easier to organise and it gives a focus for lower grades in clubs to get to eg Unley with its mooted fourth side.
