Only if you accept Doc's suggestion that it is a former Crow's player who played with Port. My sources suggest that none of the applicants fit that criteria.

Thats a fair point - the 2 who have been linked most to the job seem to be Mead, and Luke Norman.

If you are suggesting the coach will be an ex Power player, I think you will be wrong.

Nope. I'm thinking he is ex crows but played for the magpies.

Narrows it down to Bienke, Hodges, Tregenza?

maybe they should ask Catherine Young! She might put some of the old Port Adelaide fire & brimstone back into the bellies of the players!

I was the Crystal Brook footy club premiership dinner last night and they spoke about one of their former players - Luke Slattery - being on the PAFC coach selection panel. Nice feather in the cap for the young bloke from the bush.

Yeah his former coach Joel Head - who won two Mail medals and holds Crystal Brook's record for most senior games - said just that during his speech. So maybe Slatts is a future coach at Alberton or wherever? Although most of Crystal Brooks players/member/supporters are very loyal Port people so maybe not!

I didn't realise that. Times have certainly changed. Once upon a time the Brook was a great North Adelaide town. In fact at one stage when the Brook was allocated to another league club, I think Centrals, Crystal Brook Football Club protested so long and hard that the league rechanged the boundaries giving it back to North. That would be more than 20 years ago though.

Before country zoning most players from the Brook and close surrounds ended up at North.

yeah, you are both right. North is their SANFL club, but the overwhelming majority of Brookies barrack for Ports and Port Power. Coach Joel Head is a Hawthorn tragic, the previous coach Robin O'Dea is a Collingwood man but they are pretty much the exceptions

I used to go to Crystal Brook every school holidays which is certainly along time ago. This was in the days before country zoning and back then virtually the whole town barracked for North. I'm not doubting what you say, I just wonder when it all changed.

I am certainly going back to the 60s so it wasn't that much after Ron Hewett, from the Brook, had been vice captain of North's 1960 premiership side and Maurie Arbon also from Crystal Brook had played in the two previous North premiership sides. Graham Ashby from Gulnare which is just out of Crystal Brook had also played in a North Grand Final side. At that stage about the only Crystal Brook boys not to play for North were John and Gerald Darley who followed their famous cousin to South.

The Arbon's are 99% Port. Painfully so! I think one of them might barrack for the Crows but I'm not sure.
A like situation has occurred in Orroroo after Luke Tapscott got drafted by Melbourne. His family were mainly Essendon supporters (well, they wore the merchandise anyway) but now days they all wear Melbourne gear to the nafa games and around town.
