Trains pausing for several minutes in the yard before pulling into Adelaide station, with the announcement "due to congestion in the yard this train will be delayed".

The congestion in the system didn't prevent my connecting train from departing at the scheduled time, as I learned when I dashed from platform 7 to platform 1, made it to the rear carriage, pressed the button on the door, and watched as the train simply glided away while the porter laughed at me from the far end of the platform.
