Ummm they used a term and condition which was outside of the official contract to secure a signing

Whether they used the clause is irrelevant they gave a player a condition in writing which is not allowed as part of an AFL contract

I have read all the pages written about this, and I still wonder how, apart from the Crows being moronic enough to put it in writing, this situation differs from the Nathan Buckley "I only want to play for Collingwood" or the Nick Stevens "I only want to play for Collingwood" stories. Buckley went to the Bears on the understanding that it was a 1 year deal and he would then be sent to Collingwood, and, congratulations to the Power, Stevens made like a petulant child but did'nt get his way and ended up at Carlton.
So how are these situations not "interferring or tampering" with the draft process?
Please explain!! :) :?

They are similar, but the difference was probably that the Tippett/Crows one was apparently in writing.

I think after the scenarios you mentioned rules may have been brought in to stop it from happening again.

At the time the AFL were proud as punch that players went to the club they nominated. In fact, it was a big reason for them being opposed to free agency. Even last year Brad Ebert wanted to go to Port and that was no problem.
