Yes and Yes. I got a "someone said" story from the boss, where it could have only come from one brown nose.
I don't think I will ever get why they do it.

Having bagged the Redbacks in about 2,000 of them. You may have cracked the 3 ton if they didnt win by 9 wickets yesterday.

Telstra ... absolute faarking useless.

Even though my home services are Telstra wholesale, I refuse to deal with their retail.

Anyway, there's numerous mobile phones in the dedja household as it's full of women, and of course I have to manage all the plans, etc and have no trouble porting numbers between providers when it makes sense to change.

Until of course when I try to port my number from my employer to me, and you guessed it, Telstra is the carrier.

All mobile issues are dealt with a preferred T-Life store.

So it took 3 visits to actually get the correct person at the store to deal with my request. On that 3rd visit, it took 45 mins to watch her struggle with a clearly faarked customer service system to transfer my mobile service from my employer into my name (not mentioning any names ... *cough* Seibel CRM *cough*). After all that the port could not be completed because the Telstra IT dicks did an upgrade on the weekend and faarked it up so hardly anything works. The same upgrade rendered the system so slow that I exchanged life histories with the T-Life chick whilst waiting for screens to refresh.

So anyway it's not her fault so I'm sympathetic to her plight and she give me the new sim and sends me on my way after arranging a time to call me later to complete it all.

She then calls me back later in the afternoon as arranged but it takes 3 attempts to get the port completed. After 10 mins my old sim is dead and the new one is active.

Whew ... all done!

No, not quite. I ported to Telstra on a casual plan so that I could immediately port to another provider.

So I try to port to another provider and it immediately fails.

Why? ... because the IT gurus at Telstra have faarked all their systems and the port is only partially complete. Yes, the new sim is active and Telstra can record my usage to rip me off, but their backend systems haven't yet synchronised, so my account number isn't active.

As my account number isn't active I can't port to another provider.

So here I am on a Telstra Causal 10 post paid plan which requires a mortgage overdraw whenever I use the phone whist I wait for the IT Einsteins at Telstra to get their systems in sync.

FFS!

dedja, I suspect that is deliberate strategy - either that or incompetence is really widespread.

I was with iSim when Virgin bought them and I decided that rather than be transferred to a Virgin plan when they closed down iSim later I would port to Slimtel.
Virgin kept saying my iSim details (which were correctly supplied to Slimtel) were not correct and thus obstructed my porting.
In the end I gave up and got a new number, after Slimtel agreed to wave the monthly fee involved if you didn't port in your old number.

We both recognised that Virgin were going to stall on principle.
After all they only bought iSim to acquire the customers.

it's both ... I suspect if I ported to a new mobile with a post paid plan it would have been a faultless experience, but not withstanding that, their systems and processes are archaic and their staff are embarrassed about it all.

Agreed on both points!
And I say that as a Telstra shareholder.
(I did write to them a while ago pointing out it is disappointing that as a shareholder I can't bring myself to use any of their products.)
