Anyone care to comment on the rumours that Ironbank are set to lose 2 players back to their home club of Happy Valley?

Only thing I have heard re: Ironbank is that they are refusing to pay players next year. Could be linked.

story is that some clubs are considering going down a path similar to lofty whereby no players are paid (in terms of a set match fee) but they compensate for this by having a very generous incentive program. in some instances, if your team wins and you are named best, you could be looking at $800 plus.

Be interesting to see how this works if they do run with the idea. I would think it would turn some players into possession monsters!!! Playing selfish footy to better themselves and I believe would only weaken the team!

I've often wondered how this system would work; was it good for Mt Lofty and will they be sticking with it?

Yeah, don't you hate those guys that get heaps of possessions? A BOG could be your fullback holding a gun forward to bugger all, it'll be the guy that USES the ball best. I think it's great. From all reports it was received well at the Devs & it will continue. It also helped clear the ugly debt.

Total Incetives = $1050

Total Club Weekly Outlay = $3200

Modest for some clubs but reality for others and a much nicer way to spend funds.

Totally agree with this, not a fan of this system. You can also get coaches who have their favourites which means same guys get paid every week.

Wouldn't your 'Most Consistant' be your 'Best & Fairest'? And isn't 'Most Improved' a bit of a kids trophy? I guess these junior type trophies will keep these mercenaries on side for another season.

Sounds a good idea. That way all get a bit of money. One place it would not work is the high end money seeking players, $700 pw + would probably not sign up for it. Mainly becaaue they would get a $250 retainer and have to get best player every week to get the same money as the $750 they want every week and if they play an average game they miss out on the extra money.
But, If you can get people signed up on this, I reckon it is great. Keeps a lot of money back in the club, because if player 9-21 get $50, most will spend close to that plus some, back at the club after the game.

Like many others who tip money in as well they are sick of the money being wasted on prima donnas who don't perform or train or commit like local players do. Believe that club is also on the verge of local players leaving in abundance for the same reason as they are ignored. Hopefully they have the courage and common sense to go down the lofty path of club first and stick with their kids. 80k is a lot to spend for no return I believe. Over it well and truly. Good on lofty and bridggy and all other clubs that go down that path.

Probably need to get your info right before you post 'has been'. Bridgewater were paying at least 2 players over $1k a game. Then there were several others well over $500 a game. It'd be unfair to name players but not that hard to work out. Yes... They are playing locals but have a fair mix of contracted recruits... and where did they finish again??? They are not playing locals only. Lofty on the other hand had no choice but to cut payments because of massive debt and after speaking with someone involved at Lofty they have now cleared that debt. I was also told they will be seeking paid recruits now to lift them from the bottom end of the ladder.
Unfortunately clubs need paid recruits but also need to manage their locals as well. A 'local only' based club will unfortunately never win a flag in Central Div or any other reputable league for that matter. That's footy these days sadly.
