SA CAPTAIN FOR 2007/2008 ????????

Postby mal » Tue May 08, 2007 5:56 pm

Time to speculate on the new captain of SA
If he is fully recovered from his injury I think the gig will go to
CAMERON BORGAS
He is a very good batsman and bats like a skipper
I know this may seem to a wild prediction, but who else can we pick ?
The selectors will NEED to select a young man this time in my opinion

LEHMANN relinquished
DIETZ keeper and skipper too hard but will be cosidered
COSGROVE does not set an example
J BORGAS only a rookis
FERGUSON gotta make the team first
ADCOCK right age if he had 2 good years at this level hmn...
TAIT not a young quick as a skipper
GILLESPIE a roughie, but i would not
CULLEN gotta make the team first, too temprememtal for mine
BAILEY learing and too young
ELLIOTT but only short term as this will be his final year, and poor form
ROFE vant make the team these days
R HARRIS not established
D HARRIS a few people say hes a future captain, but form tapered off late last season
CLEARY too groovy to be skipper

My top 3

C BORGAS
S DIETZ
N ADCOCK

looking at 2+3 that makes Cam a big chance

what about MANOU????????     NOT EVEN CONSIDERED.
hopefully he spends more time in district cricket.

COSSIE sets the example that AG follows at KFC and HJ'S!!!!!!!

I thought Dizzy may be a good candidate but there are thoughts that suggest he would struggle to run an automatic plane

maybe the SACA need to go out and recruit a skipper............

MANOU has his own problems
He needs to work hard at getting his spot back

Hes lucky a fringe keeper from another state has perhaps overlooked
playing for SA in preference for a Eastern state.

I'll captain the side, even though I don't play.

Nathan Adcock will be the next captain of South Australia. Guaranteed!

If sportsbet were laying odds on it, id get on it.

Cam Borgas looks a good shot, we need someone who was White's age when he took over Victoria
Adcock an outside chance but one good first class year shouldn't mean instant selection as captain the next

both are current captains of their club sides when available so atm they are the logical choices to me

Why do you think Dizzy is no chance Mal?

I know bowlers rarely get the chance to captain but he's only 31? and has played 70 odd test matches and he's a players player.

I think Dizzy should get it for this season. Cam Borgas is in a similar boat to Adcock and Dan Harris, in that his average is only in the 20's so he's still got plenty of work to do before he can even cement a spot in the side. All the batsman (besides Lehmann) should be concentrating on their own game and then in two years when Dizzy will be ready to finish, we should have some stronger contenders.

The selectors should be moulding a young leader with a long tenure
Gillespie is maybe 2 years away from retirement
Not many fast bowlers captain Pura cup teams these days

I Thought that these days Gillespe is a Batsman That Bowls a bit?

Any way, To give the captaincy to one of the young blokes would be a joke, they would only be inheriting it by DEFAULT.

To be captain of any team, let alone a STATE team, is a Privilege and an Honour that should be EARNT Which leaves Gillespe as an obvious choice with a younger player as vice.

i have to agree with MAL on this one. I think we need to try and go down the road victoria went down a few years back with Cam White, the only problem is trying to find the bloke who can do it.

There is no apparent heir successor
Not one person in the contracted squad should be captain
So go for youth and hope for the best

Why wouldn't The Redbacks consider bringing Dan Marsh back to SA to captain the side?
His dad is here, he used to play here and he just captained a winning Pura Cup side.
There is nobody in the current squad who is capable of captaining us besides Boof!
