Obviously he hasnt learnt, 5 goals in 8 quarters of football against Norwood in the finals.
Starts their best forward on the bench and their best defender in the forward line, plays 2 loose men in defense and had no players forward of the center line. He then wonders why they only kick 3 goals and 2 of them were in junk time of the last quarter.
They showed what they can do against North and Centrals so its time for someone else to have a go

he has the cattle to play attacking footy but doesn't. A new coach with a new plan wouldnt need much more to challenge again in 2013, big call coming up at Milner Ave

Brad Fisher starting on the bench. Interesting tactic I would have thought.

Why would it be a strange one Southie?, Collins is or was coaching them.

At least they made it this year, if Collins is coaching Westies next year, we wont have much to beat.

Roll on 2013

I am disappointed Collins did NOT change the game plan 3 goals down at half time and we were still a chance if we played attacking football. Personally I am happy he got us to a grand final considering where we have been in recent years. It is up to the club to say if he will be there next year. But if he stays on and we make it again and the same that was yesterday was served up again he should go.

That my friend is the Eagles re. 01/04/05 GF Vs Dogs!
Ronnie changed very little and that's what you get..... good at being good, not great!
06 we recruited Grocke, Dobba, Jarrad and Cooper!
Like Norwood this year, we were clearly putting the best team in the league out each week and deserved the Flag!
But Ronnie never resorted to that defensive rubbish Collo has.

Honestly he should have learnt the lesson now. I don't know if he is the coach or not. Next year needs to start being planned now. Near enough is not good enough Geelong learnt that the hard way and So is West Adelaide. 3 grand final losses since 1983 our last is not good enough.

I hope one of them was Stephen Rechner? He is an angry tool at the best of times and very deserving of having to sit through his club serving up that crap performance!

Nothing wrong with Rechers. Stooping pretty low if you have to have a crack at a bloke as nice as him.

Were you at Richmond Oval re the North Vs. West night game when he carried on like a tool and wanted to fight the North supporters in his offical capacity as VP of the WAFC Past Players? No would be your answer!

Correct, I wasn't there. But knowing Rechers, you'd need to do something pretty intense to fire him up to get him to that point.

Not that North fans would ever be involved in that....

Rechers is one of, if not, the nicest bloke you could ever come across. For him to 'carry on like a tool' in your words, something drastic would have to of happened. No doubt the north supporters in the vicinity at the argument would have been perfectly behaved and did nothing wrong

MatteeG wrote:Collins coached HORRIBLY today. If the shutdown is working then by all means stick with it. But he needed to change it after half time when it was obvious that Norwood were doing it better.

Continually refusing to man up norwoods extra behind the ball when 5 goals down was actually giving me the sheets, I hate to think how Westies were taking it. Honestly looked like he was coaching to minimise the damage. No percentage in the GF Andy!

Also thought the skipper was badly used. Surely the best (or close to it) CHB in the comp should at least start there?

Just didnt seem to have faith in the ability of his players. They were always gonna need to play at their best to beat the legs- i just dont think they were given the chance to do that.

Fully agree with this last part.
Obviously a very different sport, but watching West reminded me of Ian Chappell's books where he wrote he didn't like ring fields as good bowlers need to look up and see slips and other catchers. Many times in the finals they'd come out of defence and see nothing up ahead. How could you not get confused when playing pressure footy requiring split-second decision-making? Classic example was when Crouch streaming out of defence, had time to look around and then got caught holding the ball in the third quarter around th 50mt mark.
