All discussions to do with the SANFL

If you look at the 8 teams that made it to the 2nd round this year

Morningside (SF) - Finished last in NEAFL North
Port Adelaide (QF) - Missed SANFL Finals
West Perth (QF) - Missed WAFL Finals
Werribbe (GF) - Lost Prelim Final
Claremont (Won) - WON WAFL PREMIERSHIP
Mt Gravatt (QF) - Missed NEAFL North finals
South Adelaide (QF) - Missed SANFL Finals
Port Melbourne (SF) - Lost VFL GF

So out of supossedly 8 of the best state league teams in the country
- only 1 won their league premiership - Claremont, full kudos to them
- only 2 made the GF - Claremont & Port Melbourne
- 5 of the 8 didnt even make the finals series of their state league comp.

I think it is fair to say that Claremont is the exception, not the rule.

Dunno Phil, more clubs that didn't play in the Foxtel Cup didn't win their league and 2 of the top 3 SANFL sides have played Foxtel Cup where the bottom side has never played in the Foxtel Cup so that conclusively shows the Foxtel Club is good for clubs, without a doubt!
Stats can't be wrong or twisted to suit an agenda, surely? ;)

True Dat Chicken Cat. Plus the Geelong VFL side would beat some AFL side with the personnel they had available to them.
And when you just look at the 3 'major' leagues the form stacks up very well with a Foxtel Cup side in every grand final!
Pretty definitive in the fact that the Foxtel Cup is good for a club in one of the 3 major league and clubs that didn't play in it were very wrong in their judgement!
Stats don't lie!

No agenda Wedgie.

Personally I want the Foxtel Cup to success just needs to be structured better.

But for every Claremont there is a West Perth or South Adelaide who faded as the year went on.

I think having 8 just teams (max three game commitment)

and 1st round in the pre-season (especially around NAB Cup GF and Pre Rd 1 bye weekend)

would be a big step forward

It would mean clubs would only have a max of 2 games to add during the regular season.

Now if there was only a way to create some atmosphere at these games :-k :-k

What are you basing that on? A bit off topic I know, but Port were never gonna make finals IMO. I'd even say they overachieved this year. The only side on paper worse than Port are Strut when playing without AFL players.

Basing it on how we only just missed out last year, recruited a what we thought would be a dominant full forward, and a pretty good ruckman/forward.

Awesome effort by Claremont to win a flag without making the GF ;)

Bump*

According to Adelaide Now, Norwood and West will represent the SANFL in the Foxtel Cup. Increased prizemoney and changes to the program made it more appealing

It was a tweet from Jai Bednall. It also says Foxtel Cup schedule will be out Nov 14.

If so that is a welcome improvement as most state league schedules cant be finalised until the FC fixture is out.

I think 8 teams, max 3 games will be a good change.

Now will they stay with Sat Morn Timeslot or try something different?
