That is bloody terrible. Whoever did it should not be allowed into another SGL game ever, the club he was supporting should be ashamed.

It is the worst thing I have ever seen at the footy, and believe he was not supporting or has no ties to either club. I am sure niether club would condone this sort of behaviour. Apart this incident it was a pretty good game for the first 3 and half quarters. The bloke that done this should be banned from footy every where for life, but I think he might have bigger concerns than that.

I was looking forward to watching a majority of the B Grade before getting ready, but unfortunately I saw the writing on the wall about 5 minutes before the incident and headed in to the rooms. The incident is alot worse than I thought, 2 games for a guilty plea, I agree is not going to stop this behaviour. Regardless of the consequence, us as players need to have more respect for one another and remove this 1970 & 80's thuggery out of the game. Not one player who does this is tough.

I see that after numerous incidents involving spectators in recent GF's and too a lesser degree other incidents as well, it is time for the SGL to act on this. On the other foot, which is alluded to in one of the articles, spectators/players/officials alike need to have better control of themselves. Sure frustration sets in and we do some silly things (I've had my moments) but if we can't control ourselves, removing alcohol from venues may be the only solution. Hopefully the law deals with this bloke and he gets a few months behind bars.

On a positive note, the crowd was fantastic. I was very surprised by how packed the ground was during the 18's and seemed to grow throughout the day.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Couple of pretty bloody disgusting acts marred what should have been a great day for both the Lions and South clubs. South have a strong reputation for clearing out any idiots so I'm pretty confident it's the last time we'll see the player in question. I believe the South president was on the front foot straight away and offered his apologies and congratulations to the Lions guys, which is great and sets a fantastic example - a credit to the club.

As for the single most disgusting thing I've ever heard of happening at three quarter time in the A grade saddens me to think that the one lasting memory a lot of spectators will have of the game is that. Paints the whole league in a bad light and if the (second hand) reports I hear of a 'bounty' being offered to do so are true I hope they lock the bloke up and ban anyone who had anything to do with it for life!! Senseless, apalling and completely premeditated violence should NOT be tolerated anywhere.

On a positive note, the A grade game was fantastic and hard fought all day. Congratulations to South Augusta winning a flag in their centenary year and Sollies can hold their head high also.

What a poorly run SGL GF, the biggest crowd at a Pirie GF in as many years as I can remember, total lack of wisdom by the SGL/Pirie league/Lions, leaving the gates open all week, only shutting them late thursday or early friday, allowing punters to get there cars & alcohol in, security guards checking cars Sat and alas only finding eskies full of ice.....derrrrrr.
Possible crowd of 3000 at a major sporting event in the city and security knock off at half time, seemingly there only job was to check the cars for alcohol, not keep check on unruly behaviour etc, police presence non-existant, until some idiot wacks the umpire, Lions running the catering, you would think they would be good at this as they do it every week and especially in the finals as they have plenty of helpers as they are never in the main game, and yet there were line up's for food and beer (hot) selling out of a caravan.... wtf, $4.50 reasonable price but why not make it $5 and forget about having to mess around with too much change......no brainer!!
FFS Lions & SGL get your collective heads out of your arse and get over to the Northern Areas and see how a GF should be run, with double the crowd Pirie had on the weekend, security actually patrolling the WHOLE of the ground, keeping it as family friendly as possible, not having to put up with senior colts lads sitting in the back of utes with the F's & C's flying for all to hear, not a good PR for the SGL at all.
Phew got that of my chest, could go on but only repeating what people have been saying for years.

And it was. Dog act. Lions bloke was just watching the fight and got sucker punched. They showed footage of Fitzy walking off, and Steve Clark (should have clued in when they said off-duty cop) plus others taking the offender away.

The other person with Clark is south player Barrett who is a Port Augusta cop.

Well done to Clark and Barratt. These supporter incidents are inexcusable. It has happened in a South vs Central GF and a Port vs South GFs in recent memory. Involving an umpire has now finally disgusted the footy public - and so it should.
The onfield incidents have always been an issue too. A player from West king hit (although in play) a South player some years ago and basically won West their last Premiership and then there was the Central Augusta player who cruelly and gutlessly belted Ports veteran John Murphy. South may have had their fair share of filthy players but lets face it most other clubs over the years have had players who have taken advantage of the soft penalty approach of the SGL Tribunal. The SGL is long overdue for an overhaul no doubt..
However, they cant hide from this fact any longer and something will surely be done now.
Anyway, I think we should now be discussing South Augusta and their great season and also Sollies massive improvement this year.

After the major incident from the weekend being shown on major news bulletins news. Can the player in question still be punished by SANFL, CFL or the zone even being suspended for 2 matches on an early guilty plea. Under the following from the South Australin Community Football League Inc. regulations could the player in question breached the following regulation:

30. Disciplinary

class of membership held in or of the SANFL, an SANFL League Club, an Affiliated League
or an Affiliated League Club or otherwise under or by virtue of the SANFL Constitution, the

Its unfortunate this Blog has focussed on the 2 major incidents that occurred on the weekend in the GF rather than congratulating the great effort in winning premierships by Lions and Souths..What a fantastic effort by Lions U/18s to defeat a previous unbeaten side in Souths..I watched the game from go to woe and 1 side wanted the footy and the other was abit more intent on the body. The seconds can only be described as a debacle, a game the spectators did not pay money to come watch with fault clearly in the hands of a few wearing the big V.The A Grade was what spectators paid money to see,,what a fantastic game and unfortunately there was a loser..You will go a very long way to see a better G/F game from an individual in big Al Margatich..It will stay in my memory for a very long time watching Margitich at a centre bounce throw up, jump so high he had his knees on the opposing ruckmans shoulders and palm the ball down to the BLUE CHIP South on ballers for a forward entry...To the people reading this please remember there was some magnificent footy played by Sollies,South and Lions..These footy sides deserve to be remembered for the efforts they displayed on G/F day..

The problems with the suspensions can be easily fixed. All that has to happen is the board get out of their room and actually watch some football. Maybe then something will be done.

Good Lord! What a novel idea Squids? Changing the subject, but still SGL...Is it right Brett Ireland is being lined up to coach you blokes next year?
