Who would have he replaced in the side though? Varcoe, Stokes?

Yeah was looking like a great player, not real sure, maybe lost a bit of pace or just never took it to the next level.

yeah. He was the highest paid Rookie in AFL history. North would have had to pay his salary last year even if he got drafted by another club

I know Nathan is too nice for some people's taste, but he seems to have done a good job as captain and on the field without being a dominant player.
Jay would be a fringe player with the Crows, but might get a place at Port.

So would his brother if he wasnt skipper.
People that bag Maxwell about being crap obviously have never seen Van Berlo in action

So far off the mark its not funny Jim. He isnt an un acountable half back flanker he plays a run with role so its obviously you dont see him that much. He is a selfless player who leads by example on and off the field. Does some clutch things at important times for AFC

I'm with FS.
As well as his defensive work on the ball or in defence, Nathan van Berlo takes critical marks and kicks critical goals at key times.
He does a lot of the key holding things together stuff essential to the team.
Not speccy but steadily effective, like the similarly maligned (by the shallow observer) Michael Doughty.

and just to clarify, im not saying he is best player/captain, but what he does is vital to the side and he is definately in the best 22. He sets the standard in a lot of areas that a captain has to

Mate... firstly I have provided plenty of negative Power post on this site (refer to countless Trengrove/pfieffer baggings)... maybe you only see the crows ones...
And do I need to provide evidence that Goodes killed Van Berlo in the first half of that final coming of VB's wing?
