For those that don't know a new points system was voted in at the delegates meeting early in the year the points are calculated on a average wins system over the last 3 years

Interesting that LC may win 2 premierships in that 3 year period, and have 2 more points than Yank and Willunga.

Not saying thats a problem necessarily, its just an interesting outcome from the system used.

That's from kc himself, 0-3 wins 17 points, 4-6 wins 15 points, 7-9 wins 13 points, 10-12 wins 11 points, 13-15 wins 9 points, 16-17 wins 7 points, 18 wins 5 points

While there is a percentage margin with these wins it is taken purely from the whole figure and not the decimal from what I can gather in the e mail I received I don't know if it has been forwarded to all clubs I just got cc in it on from someone at our club so I am assuming it is all correct

GWW the old system had its flaws and would punish sides for recruiting well in one season ie under the old system encounter bay and Mclaren would have 11 points effectively meaning your cant improve under this system it enables the bottom sides from the previous few years to maintain there recruits and therefore improve and in doing do reducing the top clubs average wins so they would also get then get additional points in time

Pretty quiet on here considering its gf week!
Went for my first look at finals last sat at strath, at 3 qtr time thought it would be yank to win easy. Full credit to willunga who got there game going and were very unlucky to lose in the end. A couple of errors in the last few minutes to willunga cost them, notably standfield being 45 out on an angle in the last minute needing a point to level the scores passing to haskett who dropped it. And haskett again being very unlucky just before the siren hacking a kick out the pack 50 out it rolled and just missed the points. This will be the first gf since 03 that willunga won't be there, unbelievable record but a change is good and should expect a big crowd this weekend.
Yank seemed to be playing a few blokes carrying injuries which nearly cost them with lewis staying at full forward and pat fittock despite kicking four goals looking pretty sore in the last qtr. My tip is creek to win by 7 goals. They will have the pace to break yanks zones and be better balanced all over the ground with a few more stars up forward for yank to stop.
In the ressies if the rumour is right willunga have got a few players missing out due to not being qualified not used to there a grade missing out. So this should be a cracker of a game my tip willunga who will be a bit more physical and experienced for the creeks willunga by 2 goals.

It's not a bad system but how does it help a club the other way. If for example a club like Willunga or Yank had a whole heap of retirements or blokes leave they would probably struggle over the next 2-3 years until their points come up.

I don't think any system is perfect but this one isn't too bad.

I do think the GSFL is one of the most even competitions going around and one of the most proactive.

Cheers for the info hftb, I'd forgotten the pts system was changing. Based on what you've said, I've put a table together with the prior years etc. Hopefully I've got it correct. Strath are the biggest loser - getting 11 points instead of 15 under the old system.

Interesting about the Dees B's kitm - looks to me like 4 of their 2nd semi side wont be able to play.

A Grade: Creek for me despite Yank's home ground advantage - just too much quality and run. Think it will be a great contest if the Yank boys are all fit - Lewis was a liability for them IMO last week despite his 2 goals (1 gift from the men in white)
B Grade: Hard to pick. With only 1 loss for the year Willunga should get the job done, but I'm going for Creeks in an upset.
S Colts: With the flag favorites out in straight sets I think Goolwa are the side to beat.
J Colts: After dominating the minor round, Bays faltered big time in the 2nd semi. Heart says 3 in a row for Victor but head says Bays should come ready to play this time.

One thing I really enjoyed at Strath last week was the A grade umpiring. Sure there were still some unusual/inconsistent decisions, but when a player ducked it was not too high and if they just dropped it when tackled it was holding the ball (instead of the holding the man that gets paid half the time usually). There was more holding the ball decisions paid than I've seen all year in total! Plenty of ticky-touch BS that normally gets paid was play on too - yay! Maybe they were from another league/area?

I just know that Reynella played in two GF's then the prelim and then lost about 11-12 blokes from that group who either retired, or left. Can happen. I think Encounter Bay were in a similar boat not that long ago. But you are right with Willunga, they go very deep into the B's and then juniors.
