With undiagnosed neurological issues including lack of balance, no reflexes, no speech, a possible form of Ataxia, Asthma and Autism, going to this school will give him a massive chance to help him with his developmental issues. Without that chance, he would be up against it.... so I'm pretty happy today.

Having 2 kids with Autism is no holiday but they both make me proud every day of the year

Choccies, you should be nominated for parent of the year.

I came on here thinking how bad my weekend has been. We've got a three year old who has asthma (and had croup during the weekend) and to be honest, my wife and I were feeling sorry for ourselves because we'd had no sleep and had to take the boy to the women's and childrens because his breathing rate was up to 70 breaths per minute and had a temperature of over 40. He's fine now and couped up in bed. But our problem is only temporary and he's going to be back to normal very soon.

We tend to take things for granted, and when I read stories like yours, it puts it all in perspective. So for you to be so proud of your son, I rate you! Keep up the great work your kids will be proud of you too.

Probably the best post I have ever read, great work gadg

All the best to you and your family Choccies

Cheers everyone. It certainly makes coaching a losing grand final pale into insignificance... But there is always plenty of people worse than us out there in the world and all we can do is our best which seems to work OK. :D
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Something (someone) I definitely rate right now: Mr McSpaz. He knows our house is currently a dry zone, but he also knows I've got a killer headache, so without even asking me he went and bought me my favourite beer so I could soothe my head with IT instead of with the revolting cheap plonk I bought in desperation this arvo. (Having suffered TMJ headaches for over two years now, I know when painkillers will help and when they won't. And when they won't, grog will. I don't know why - I suppose it relaxes the muscles.) It also means I will wake up fresh as a daisy tomorrow instead of being burdened by a nauseating acidic goon hangover.

Yeah, well, I've got an unspoken rule that whenever he does something awesome like a) buying me my best beer for a headache, b) cooking dinner unexpectedly, c) telling me to 'go out with the girls and have fun' and not complaining when I stagger in at two in the morning in my undies, bellowing 'Copperhead Road' and brandishing a stolen promo flag from McDonald's - he gets a reward. :D
