If and when ( big IF ) this eventuates, an SANFL with two AFL reserves teams and no Magpies would truly spell the death of the SANFL. Would you continue to follow with interest?

I think nearly everyone who's club is still in existence would still care about the comp .. The challenge (as it is today) is to attract new followers who dont hold the ties to SANFL clubs that most of us older generation do (older as in terms of experiencing previous eras).

That said, I don't know of a SANFL fan that wants to see the Magpies disappear.

Serious question here, and big hypotheticals I know, but should the Power get a reserves team up and running would the Port faithful entertain the idea of splitting the "one club" in an attempt to get the Magpies independent of their big brother?

No, I dont think so.

If this were to occur, why could they not still be the Magpies?

Maybe grab a piece of paper and a pen. Re-read the entire article slowly and jot down a few key points.

It answers all your questions Mr Boon.

I concede I got this from Jamie Briggs, and so some here may immediately dismiss it, but this could be a relevant factor in the viability of a few teams:
As reported in the Advertiser, the SANFL is facing a $100,000 increase in electricity bills, while member clubs are facing cost increases of up to $50,000, due largely to the carbon tax.

Without any compensation, these clubs are being forced to review all of their programs, including junior development programs, in order to meet these additional costs.

In Question Time, the Prime Minister told footy clubs to raise ticket prices to cover the cost of the carbon tax. SANFL clubs, and indeed other sporting clubs across the country, are already struggling to meet their budgets. The carbon tax will only make it harder for clubs to survive. These small clubs very often form the cornerstone of communities and to dismiss these concerns by simply saying that they should raise the price of tickets shows just how out of touch this Prime Minister is with Australians.

Sporting clubs and their hard working volunteers deserve better than this Prime Minister and her carbon tax.

It may have an effect on some struggling AFL sides too.

At least with the carbon tax here Port can have something/someone else to blame.

No, the bitter and twisted SANFL clubs, led by North Adelaide (who are still upset at the 1989 result as well as the back stabbing in 1990 and are doing everything in their power to avenge this) actually started the Carbon Tax just to get at Port Adelaide (who mind you, have banrolled the SANFL for the last 350 years etc..). It's still the SANFL's fault.
