Anyone know if changing the name away from churches precludes us from the national championships?

The New Exec was going to look into it. Name is staying for now, but it is still on the agenda for clubs to discuss with more detail.

Think you can't go to the Nationals if the comp decides to change it's name. Some clubs think that if they eliminate the Churches from the comps name, recruiting will be more feasible. Tough one for the new exec to look at.

Im with auto on this. name change is as inevitable as the competitions death whilst minority church components seek past glories.

Thoughts? Thought it was obvious. Morialta won the premiership in 2010/11 and remained in Div 2. In 2011/12 Morialta won every match, except two. (They lost one during the season and then the Semi.) But, expect resistance from one cranky old Assoc Treasurer.

Enfield only won three matches for the year, not worthy.........yet.
There are two sides out there today, only one is playing cricket. Us of course.

i agree with you..Morialta should be the one's to go up but in previous seasons have refused to do so and i cant see that changing this year either  can you really refuse Seaton after finishing bottom last yr? my understanding is Enfield will go up if told but you want the 6 strongest clubs in div 1 and Enfield isnt in that top 6 bracket

Here Here!!! If Morialta dont go up to Div 1 its a joke!! This is when the Exec need to make a stand and make some decisions for the better of the comp IMO. If I was an A grade player for Morialta in the past 2 seasons I would be embarressed, bowling B Grade Div 2 teams out for 30 ect... not exactly something to be proud about, surely u want to challenge urself and play at the highest level possible.

Yes mate, removal of the Churches reference would indeed exclude us from the National Championships (A.C.C.A.).

Case in point is Southern District & Churches League in Melbourne, who changed their name from South Suburban CA a number of years ago. They wanted to drop the 'Churches' component from their association name, but under some clause in the ACCA constitution, doing so would've excluded them from participating in the Carnivals.

Whilst the church-going fraternity within the Association is relatively small, I would question whether the presence of the word "Churches" within our assoc name has as great an impact as fabled. A 2min conversation when trying to recruit potential players would surely dispel any notion that they would be entering some rabid Pentecostal cult cricket association?? ;) Does it outweigh the allure of the opportunity to compete at a slightly higher level?? I don't know, but I sure haven't seen any compelling evidence either way.

Having said that, at this year's National Championships we will attempt to voice our opinion on the matter at the delegate's meeting to challenge the constitution and bring it in line with at least 1990...... Rome wasn't built in a day, afterall.. ;) With NSW reluctant to field a NSW B side on an ongoing basis and the possibility of opening the Carnival up to 'external' associations to participate, we can only try.
