Been a great servant of the club, and 1 club player I understand, but to retire so you can say goodbye after a game when there is 1 more game in the season imho just doesn't sit right.

Granted Im not a fan of these farewell games (didn't think Tyson Edwards' was right either), but would have preferred to see him play the season out then whip around in a car before a home game next season.

Selfish it isnt, Selfless it is. By him finishing this weekend, he got to say goodbye to the fans he stayed loyal to for 250+ games (selfelss in the fact he turned down better offers to stay at mfc) and had his family there/alongside of him. Selfless in the fact and supported by Marck McVeigh's decision is that a young player, now gets an AFL game. Hopefully a debutant that will use that experience all be it one game to get ready for the next season. His retirement was based on the fact he didnt want to hold a young player back and old mfc development back by playing another year, not that his body wasnt up to still playing.... some would say yet another selfess act?

Some blokes dont like the cafuffle some would like the opportunity to play 'that last game'. Each to their own and who are we to judge really?

So for 22 Rounds it was OK to hold a younger player back?

As I said, I didn't expect my thoughts to be supported by anyone else, and it's a shame I've cast aspersion on such a stalwart of their club .. But I still think he could have achieved a fitting farewell in better circumstances.

As I said, I don't rate "farewell" games, as I think they become more about the individual than the club, but each to their own.

No for 22 rounds he was playing ok footy and realised that his time was up for him to go on next year would be to the detriment of the club and the development of younger players.

Brad's wasnt a farewell game as such it was just his last game. Tyson Edwards was a 'farewel' game and while it was about the indervidual, the side couldnt make finals and the supporter base supported/wanted it probably more or just as much as Edwards.

While it is made about the individual, the individual makes the club if that makes sense. They are part of the club, the highs, the lows. Im sure if you gave 15+ years service to a company and retired, they would throw you a morning tea/drinks/lunch etc?

Josh Fraser (gold coast) gone today apparently. 200 games but probably will be remembered as one of the worst ever #1 picks.

In all fairness, I don't think him playing was holding anyone back, and even last weekend showed he is more than capable to be playing in that side. It was his decision to retire and go out on those terms and so be it.

Was only kept on Adelaide's list because he broke his leg in the SANFL finals last year IMO.

Just wanted his last game played in Melbourne so emotions could flow instead of having the 7 demon supporters that will show up at Subi clap him off.

Would be a good get for Port. Ebert Boak Harlett Moloney Gray Wingard is a decent midfield. If they can get some support for Schulz they will win double the amount of games they won this year.

However atleast one or both of Hartlett and Gray will be injured..... their bodies cant take it unfortunately. Hamish could be a genuine star while Gray adds X factor
