And while you're at it Kinghit, can you explain whats going on at South's?

a) its pretty obvious what happened squidbrain, struck booted the ball away in frustration over the fence and got 1 game suspension, how about the sgl get serious and rub blokes out for head high contact, striking instead of these piddly things, doesn't do their credibility any favours

b) well at souths unless i'm mistaken we are top in 3 grades, experiencing a lull as could be anticipated with such a strong start to the year/less depth due to unavailable players..am i missing something?

A game for stupidity should know better, were you referring to last week game where south players could easily got reported for fighting instead of playing footy like it cost them a big game couple of years ago. Was strucky reported for engaging time wasting or kicking or otherwise causing the football to to leave the ground.

What the chance of rusty playing in the a's by end of the year?

russell was the difference in the b grade, admittedly i'm not sure how good the defenders he played on were but he held on to everything and was reasonably accurate..he is unavailable this week however

killa that BIG game souths lost a couple of years ago wasnt lost due to players fighting(what game were you watching),it was due to being outcoached by the opposition, and terrible coaching from souths, and put simply they were not HARD enough.Seems to be a trend to me.

Dare I say it Lions appear to be the form side of the competition at the moment with good wins over Sollies, West and Centrals in the last 3 rounds. Will be interesting to see how they go against Port this Sunday who must have run out of legs in the last quarter against South on the weekend. They were staring down the barrel of another last place finish 4 weeks ago but if they can snatch a win somehow and Centrals lose to South they will be in the 4!

This is definitely turning out to be one of the closest SGL seasons in recent history with 3 teams battling for top 2 and the double chance, with another 2 teams in the running for the remaining finals spot.

As a side note I was chatting to a mate the other day about senior players who are solid B graders but have yet to (or are unwilling to) break into or play regular A grade for whatever reason. With a couple of clubs hit hard by injuries in 2012 I'd be interested to know who you think from your club or others could step up if required?

I'll get the ball rolling - though I don't know how accurate I'd be or why they might not have: shift work, form etc.
South - Trewartha
Lions - Bradley
Central - Harrison (has got his chance the last couple of weeks in the A grade)
Sollies - Eldridge (though I do see former Zone player Marc Scollin has returned to the club via the B grade in the last 2 weeks)
Port - Hancock
West - Williams

south and sollies almost certs to play the 1st week of the finals, still up in the air as to the other game with ports struggling big time, centrals also having injury troubles, while lions were impressive for 3 quarters and have a few blokes in their b's who should slot into the a grade side shortly...centrals are the only of the three to play both top teams in the final four games so they will need a big month to scrape in

Was up at Pt Augusta Sunday, was a cracker of a game between South and Sollies. Apart from the umpiring not sure what Sollies have done to that Fitzy lad almost cost them the game ( would hate to see them lose a important game over him).
It stuck out like dogs balls. I understand umpires miss some but to find free kicks that are not there is a different thing. Please for the sake of ruining a good game any umpire put your beef you have with any team or player aside so us supporters dont get frustrated. And I no that it would be said if you dont like it do it yourself well I have umpired and may do in the future again and also no that you guys are getting paid and should be accountable.

Quite well at the moment he did have a couple of quiet weeks there but has bounced back and should take out the goal kicking trophy quite convincingly - currently on 64 and 18 in front with 3 games to go.

Sollies and South will definitely play the second semi and deservedly so, but even if Sollies stay on top they may get stooged out of a Pirie semi if Lions sneak into the 4 over Centrals. Having said that Ports are struggling big time to cover their injuries and mathematically can miss finals completely if they don't turn it around this week against West. Next week's Centrals v Lions looks like being an early knockout final though.

Apart from productive forward Greg Phillips, who are the other important "outs" for Ports?

Sollies virtually assured of top spot and a home final now being 2 games and % clear with 2 rounds to go - South to finish second. Centrals v Lions this week will be huge! Pretty simple from here on in:

Port - Tough assignments against South and Lions, need to win at least once to assure themselves a finals campaign but are horribly out of form. A loss to South this week means potentially being knocked out by Lions the week after.
Centrals - Need one more win. Can grab a finals berth by beating Lions this week, a loss this week means they would rely on beating top side Sollies in the last round.
Lions - Need 2 wins from 2 games against Central and Port to make finals.
West - Not in contention

Wouldnt get carried away "Furry Wall", if Port & Lions finish 3 & 4 then Sollies will be travelling North for the 1st final, having said that doubt very much Port can make it, but footy is a funny game, anything can happen.
Ports other injuries are Bylee, Carey, Mudge, few unavailable due to illness or work (Magor, Fetherstonaugh, Koblar, Hancock).
Still had a good enough side on the park Sat to beat West...........well maybe not.

Westies have certainly thrown a spanner in the works and threatened to derail Sollies' home final ambitions by taking them down a peg - and more importantly a chunk of percentage - on Saturday. Hayden Warren kicking 19 goals in 2 games is an outstanding effort. South can now pinch top spot if they beat West in the last round and Sollies lose to Central.

Oddly enough it could be considered beneficial for Central if they were to lose to Sollies, as that would ensure Solly stay a game clear of South and the 1 v 2 final is in Pirie, meaning Centrals would play Ports in Augusta. Flirting with form this close to finals is probably not wise but if there are some sore bodies getting around they might be kept in cotton wool for the following week.
