I was always a pretty good athlete and could always walk into all sports and be pretty good at them including starting footy when I was 25. Sports included cricket, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, rugby, basically anything at PE but when I tried to play soccer I was bloody hopeless, ball would go sideways off my boot when I tried to smash it, dudes would dance around me while dribbling the ball, I was hopeless even though Id watched the game for 10+ years. Soccer is easily the most difficult sport to step into because of the skill level even if it is as boring as batshit.
Well said Wedgie... to argue AFL is more skillful is a tad off the mark... to say its boring is a personal choice and some people don't have the patience to sit and watch the game and learn to appreciate it. I had the same opinion of the game prior to getting a season ticket and seeing the EPL live every week - atmosphere at the game is 10x better than any AFL game I've been too. Many of the rivalries are many times stronger than any AFL rivalries... time + religion has played a large part in this...
Similar arguement with Test cricket - many find that boring and rather ODI.

Only use your feet as well is soccer.
It is a lot easier to learn how to kick a soccer ball than it is to learn to kick a footy.

ARE YOU FOR REAL!!!!!!
Having played both sports for many years the most serious sporting injuries i have seen is playing soccer.
Broken fibia and tibias at once, broken ankles, dislocated knees, sliced legs from studs, dislocated shoulders from being tripped, broken noses, split faces from elbows while trying to header, lots of head clashes, concussions.
Worse i saw was a mate who broken both bones in his forearm landing incorrectly after a dirty tackle, bone through the skin blood everywhere.

Compared to AFL there is bugger all.
Take a look at this weeks AFL clubs injury list 90% if not more are soft tissue type injuries not contact injuries.
AFL may get more injuries but to say soccer is non contact is another dumb ochre statement. Soccer gets alot more serious contact injuries. In the EPL this weekend a player had there ACL snapped in a tackle, not just turning or twisting, snapped from the tackle its self.
