No Respect- after the guts were ripped out of Mt Lofty's senior squad at the end of last season (where we finished 7th), to get even one win on the board with a team almost full of young, inexperienced local boys would have been a pass mark. 4 wins, and possibly five is a pretty fair return and a reflection on his ability to develop players.

Simplistic view. As Dangermouse said, the coach was always on a hiding to nothing results-wise. In a lot of games that they've lost they seemed to have pushed teams but then faded, a few additions next season will hopefully get them challenging for finals. But by no means has he been seen as a failure. Not the worst year to be rebuilding ie with a team so dominant such as Mt Barker, other strong squads like IB, Uris & Hahndorf have unluckily found their feet in a year where the 'Roos just can't be stopped. It's their flag to lose.

Final minor round, as I see it:
Blackwood vs Uris - I doubt Uris will rest players but that would be Blackwood's only hope. Uris by 5 goals & will take the foot off the gas once safe.
hahndorf vs TV - intersting. Hahndorf too strong but not much in it. 13 points.
IB vs Bridgey - the raiders to finish another poor year with a loss...a hefty one. IB by 12 goals & as per Uris comment.
Lobey vs Lofty - Should actually be a good game. I wanna pick the Devs but from what I've heard Lobey has been travelling well recently & this week they might break that 7-season losing streak against Lofty. Tigers by 28 points.
Mt Barker vs Onkas - what a solemn way for Onkas to finish a season where they were touted as a title threat. Roos by 11 goals. More if it's not muddy.

Barker 9-8 to Onkas 4-6
very tough game - barkeroos had all the answers and just worked the 4qtrs
Onkas have some very good skillful players - they worked hard for the first 3 qtrs but it did not feel in any doubt the Barkeroos always seemed to have something up their sleeve when required
very muddy - extremely cold - but a great day out always

JQ - not to simplistic, for much of the season you have banged on about being relergated wins=staying up!
dangermouse - the guts were ripped out because the coach was there, if scott wood coached as was expected over half those guys stay, $$$ or not. as for developing youngsters, just pickinthem in the team is not developing them.
Same coach - mor will leave next year

Banged on? You knob. It's a forum, a lot of us discussed relegation. Of course I want my team to stay up & yes, wins are the way to do that, but what does that have to do with this?
Re the youngsters - so they SHOULDN'T have been picked? They're another season of senior footy better off & that should bode well for next year.
The coach worked with what he had ie younger, smaller guys. If he had some of the seniors that had left I definitely think that could have made for a better season & better development, sure. But are you saying that guys left because their mate didn't get the coaching gig? They therefore didn't play for the jumper, is that what you're saying?

JQ you are right - these guys that left are the reason your club is in its current predicament. Keep with the kids and the coach and you will be fine. You can't afford the so called senior players and tossers anyway. Who'd want to coach these days ? Your on a hiding to nothing - look at Onkas porr bugger there had to deal with EDITED BY MODERATORS - what hope have you got !!!!!! Don't ya love local hills footy.

Burch, stapleton and others i know of were predicting finals preseason - so in there opinion aswell underachieved.
what i was saying about younger guys was just playing them is not ths same as developing them - the basics of how to play diff positions wasnt taught from my understamnding.
And yes they may have stayed if wood was coaching wich would have been playing for jumper coz your club had no m,oney this year - petersongray played for years for less than he could of made if he went elsewhere.

Any truth to the rumour?

Wouldn't surprise me. David's boss is linked to Blackwood through his kids playing netball there so i'm sure he would be trying to get David out there to help Blackwood.

Well, if they weren't taught those basics (I'm not privvy to that) then fair enough, that isn't development. But from what I heard throughout the season the players embraced the coach & the club has almost cleared it's fairly hefty debt.
I'm mates with the afore mentioned guys & they weren't all that confident of finals pre-season. With the personel losses they're smart enough guys to face the facts that it was going to be a trying season. The early losses to Blackwood & Bridgey hurt.

Ive heard Mt barker B Grade may lose their score from Saturdays match for playing an un-register player and the said player scored them 3 quick goals in the last quarter. I understand it was a bloke by the name of Marston and it was only brought to the leagues attention because he polled 3 Mail medal votes.

I believe this maybe a tongue in cheek comment. The people who witnessed the umpiring by Butch Marston maybe forgiven for thinking that he may have a small affiliation with one of the sides taking part in the match. I'm suprised he got the 3 votes though, i thought he was worth 1 at best, I thought Scotty Tidemann for the 3 ;)

No Respect- The young players were better players in the second half of the season compared to the first half- that suggests development of both the players and the game-plan. Fitness levels (tested) showed consistent improvement throughout the season, proving development in this area. Your knowledge of what happens around Mt Lofty is obviously limited to second-hand conversations after a few pints at the pub as your comments prove you are ill-informed. And also, those players had left before the coach was appointed, and so saying "I would have stayed if Wood was coach' is a pretty easy cop-out from those blokes IMO, Wood was still in the running when they were meeting and signing elsewhere for ma$$ive coin. And finally, internal club expectations this year was to see a development in competetiveness and consistency in the second half of the season. Overall I think the coach has earned a pass mark against those criteria.
