Norwood vs crows

Postby the joker » Wed Aug 22, 2012 5:31 pm

Norwood have put a request in to the crows to play a crows reserves side in the first week of finals. As the will have the week off and they also have a bye in the last round.
I wonder if the players that are playing SANFL finals will okay in their team or play for crows reserves?
You would think the likes of Henderson and symes will play for the dogs

Shades of 1990.

Could be the wedge that forces open the door for AFL reserves teams in the SANFL.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

It had better not, if, the Crows player has an SANFL game (league or reserves) that week. If the Crows player has no game then fine - but I can't imagine there would be too many of them.

Depending on the detail of the "request", I'd say get stuffed Norwood if I were any of the other SANFL clubs.

If the above is correct then we've put a request to the Crows, so the SANFL clubs would be saying get stuffed to the Crows, not us .. I can't see that the AFC would keep back any of their fit players from playing SANFL finals, what would be the point?

It sounds like they're asking for those that aren't playing that week. A bit strange there wouldn't be many.

Reference the above scenario. If westies had finished top,and sent a request to port power to play their reserves including Pfeiffer, Jonas, rodan and Phillips, what would Norwood think? Get stuffed port for receiving a request?
Anyway doesn't sound like this is the situation, and I'd like to think Norwood wouldn't attempt to shaft the other sanfl clubs.

Both the Norwood, League & Reserves sides are minor premiers

So if you make it an internal trial
AND
top up the Norwood reserves with
suprlus Crows players from SANFL clubs NOT in the finals
then there is no issue from my perspective.

BUT if
Crows players with West, Central, and the other two finalists
are pulled from their SANFL club
to play this game
then I have a major issue.

I can't see that happening
From a Crows perspective surely they would want their surplus players to participate in the pressure of an SANFL Final
more than an internal trial (wouldn't they ??).

My ire would certainly be directed toward Port not West in that situation .. West don't owe us anything, but you'd like to think Port would as part of the 2-way street relationship that exist between the local AFL clubs and SANFL clubs.

Would imagine that if such a trial game took place, it would include only those Crows not involved in SANFL finals (so with the ladder as it stands would be any of Tambling, Kerridge, Reilly, O'Riley, Martin, McKernan etc), might even include Norwood boys Brown and Grigg.

Norwood would likely use a few ressies players also .. Don't fret, even as an opponent I dont think any/many Norwood supporters would support other SANFL clubs being decimated for their finals for the sake of a trial game.

it is a different Idea.
1) you risk injury on your players.
2) a week off is handy to get over those lil niggles.
3) Even if your players are inform might not help them keep form
4) might go against the side if they get flogged.

Yep thats a concern for sure .. So is 1 game of footy in 3 weeks coming into a match against finals hardened opponent, bit of a rock and hard place decision.

very true, just dont know what kind of workout Norwood would be expecting from a team which would only 4-5 players playing for a Crows finals spot.

Especially considering the sides you will have still playing in the SANFL at very least Central, West, Glenelg and possibly North, im sure the Crows players involved in these SANFL would rather play SANFL finals.

Also a bloke like Orval who has played all year in Centrals reserves would probably want to play a part in their finals campaign instead of a pointless game.

Best situation would be for Norwood to play an internal trial and invite the Crows players aligned to clubs who miss out on finals to participate.

stiff shit, We've done it a few times, that's the programme, everyone knew what it was at the start of the season. IF Norwood had morals, they would say no thanks, it's unfair.

I understand JK the other clubs are not happy with the request because apparently Norwood (and by that I assume Bassett?) has asked for all non AFL required players to be made available for the Crows "Reserves" so from a North point of view that would mean Johnston would play in a trial as opposed to playing in a more meaningful game e.g. one that might have finals implications for his "home club". Surely you can see how that reads?

Yep I addressed that above, if that's the case then I'd be the first to tell the club in no uncertain terms what I thought of it .. I find it hard to believe, even for Bass, that he would have requested that .. Best I do some digging.
