Tips for moving house.

The lady who became my 2nd wife had furnished her place in Unley from the local St Vinnies.
In that location she got some good durable stuff cheaply.

Today's furniture does seem to offer you a basic choice - it is generally either flimsy, or b..... expensive.
(However I have, occasionally, picked up some nice bits at Freedom's sales - it becomes worthwhile at half-price.)

Im moving house next month after 10 years and i read all the info on this topic. Whilst i found it interesting and helpful im going to leave everything to after footy season and then in the last week before im meant to leave...PANIC

Im doing a massive down size so i am giving away a sh#tload of stuff. Would anyone have a GOOD CHARITY to recommend for clothes, appliances and kitchenware and whatever the 5 chicks that have lived here have left behind.

Mr McSpaz and I have been living together for five years and our house is still full of old mismatched furniture. Some of it we got from rellies and other stuff we bought from Super A-Mart or Gumtree or I nabbed it from someone else's hard rubbish collection. It's frustrating in that nothing matches but most of it does what it's supposed to do and the chairs are comfortable. I recommend Gumtree for everything.

However, one thing to be aware of is that if you accept furniture from rellies, chances are they'll keep giving you all the rest of the furniture they don't want any more. The last time Mr McSpaz and I moved, we had a shed full of everyone else's old cast-offs that I had to chop up with an axe so we could chuck it all in the skip. (The chopping part was fun, but it was a lot of work.)

HH# - try the Salvos, Goodwill etc, they often have second hand goods that are very well priced. Not electrical goods though, unfortunately.

Messenger classifieds? Locals often look to sell fridges and the like.

Only Octavianus, when he came to fight Marcus, seemed to be able to resist her.
After she went on her Asp binge after his failing to fall for her, he went straight back to Rome and become Caesar Augustus.

In the opening scene of Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleopatra" the topic is introduced between two Roman soldiers thus IIRC:
"Our Captain's heart is become the bellows and the fan to cool a Gypsy's lust. She made great Caesar lay his sword to bed. He ploughed her and she cropped."
The crop's name was Caesarion, and Cleo wanted Julius to nominate him as his successor.

PS: My second marriage was on the Ides of March in 1984, because it amused both of us.

Heres a few tips I learnt today...moving day...

1) When buying a new bed, DO NOT assume you wont have to take it apart later and thread every 2nd screw hastely trying to put it together. Makes moving a hassle.

2) Try and find ANYONE to help you move if your partners working all day. Lifting a couch into and out of a truck is a prick...

Being 10.30am, Im sure there'll be a few more helpful tips
