If that is the case, start the finals in three weeks.

But one of North or Glenelg have to lose so unless it is a draw the loser of that match will still only be 2 games ahead of the bottom 4. If it is a draw then the bottom 4 would be 2 1/2 games behind which would be very hard to make up.

My bad,I thought North were a game ahead of the Bays...

Either way, you would think Port the most likely on current form to slip into the 5, yes? We play both North and Glenelg on the run home, obviously need to beat them both.

Mmmmm the Eagles possibly. With games against North, Port and Sturt who are also competing for the 5th spot. These become crucial, in effect double point games. At our best we can beat West. So only the Norwood game is the real danger. A surprise win there and maybe 5th spot is ours.

Unless Sturt somehow manages to beat Norwood. In that case at least one of the bottom 4 would be 1 game out of the five.
I know what you mean though, you were being realistic. I was just being pedantic.

I would suggest that none of the bottom 4 sides will make the 5

After a lot of talk about a desperate dash for 5th spot going down to the wire among all the teams right down to 9th, things are turning out a bit differently.

Port Adelaide v Glenelg and Eagles v North Adelaide this weekend will tell the story. If the current 4th & 5th sides both win, then it's effectively all over and the others will just be playing to avoid the spoon for the balance of the year. Whereas if Port or Eagles get up, the winning side(s) is/are still in with a chance. Then, if both Port and the Eagles win next w/e, the following week they play each other, in what is effectively a pre-elimination final (bear in mind that Glenelg, while badly out of sorts, still have Sturt and South to play in the run home). Sturt and South have only just officially qualified as shot ducks, but now they are.

So from a position very recently where you could say hand-on-heart that 'anyone can make it', within 2 weeks we'll almost certainly be down to no more than one side outside the 5, who's a chance of breaking in.

The margin today could really hurt Glenelg, not regarding Port-- in the sense that they were likely (and are now certain) to lose any % showdown with Port if both sides finish on the same # of wins anyway-- but it now opens the door that they could actually fall behind the Eagles on %, if they have any more big losses and/or the Eagles have a couple of big wins.

this weekend is make or break for some sides, therefore I believe that Port WILL beat West at Alberton but the Bays won't drop out because Sturt will beat the Eagles at Unley in an upset!

If Glenelg d Norwood

Sturt d Eagles

Otherwise it will go down to the "unclippable" Round 24

Congrats to North on making the finals.
Glenelg will hold on to 5th as Norwoood will let them win next week one way or another.
Don't be surprised if Sturt beat the Eggs at Unley Common anyway !!
