Strath have the best form of the 3 but tough draw for them. Hard to see any of them troubling the top 4 whoever makes it really but as you say - stranger things have happened!
McLaren have Pongy, Compass, Willunga and Strath. On what I saw on the weekend they are a chance to lose all 4!
Victor have Goolwa, Willunga, Creeks and Compass - maybe 2 wins.
Strath have Willunga, Yank, Bays and McLaren - 1 likely win.

So 5th spot is McLaren's to lose.

I honestly think Yank will take out the flag this year. I watched them against Willunga, and yes they just went down but i feel come september they will be the team to beat. A finals culture has now been blooded into the yank boys, and i feel they will hold their own in the finals series compared to previous years. It will be good too see the yank boys get a premiership as well. Creeks are the second best side IMO... Willunga havent impressed me like previous years, however if its one thing ive learnt and that is to NEVER right off the Demons.. whats everyones thoughts?

I reckon yank will win too but I don't know if they can handle the finals heat. I reckon their would be heaps of pressure to. They would have spent a fortune in the past few years. Can't spend that sort of $&$ to keep coming 3-5th

I agree that they need to win a flag but what are they going to get $$ wise for winning a flag in the GSFL! This is not a crack at Yank but country teams in general. I think its good to see at team thats been down finally getting somewhere. However any team at the country levell that wins a flag and needs to spend money to do it (which we all kind of have to now) will not be getting any great cash injection just for winning??
I do believe that taking the risk and spending the money has made Yank a more attractive team for players to go to even before they have a flag. I guess what im saying is even if Yank dont win good on them for getting their club up the ladder!

Willunga & Creek have the runs on the board. More depth too. Creek look to have the most firepower for kicking a big score. But isn't the grandy at yank this year? If they can get there they'll be tough to beat.

Yep sorry Yank.
Gees you'd want to be a lot better - One can only think that McLaren thought Victor were going to be easy beats.

Tell you tomorrow night! Yank's results are very impressive but Creek are the best side IMO. Yes it is at Creek but tomorrow's clash will still tell an interesting story. If Creek sow up a top 3 spot with a full fit side then they are my favorites.

A strong Yank is much better for the comp than a struggling Yank of course and maybe flying players from interstate is just the same as getting players from Adelaide - but I'm not a fan.

Lot of talk on other forums about clubs changing leagues. Just now hear from a reliable bloke but in a pub that meadows and aldinga are looking to the gsfl. Could it be true? Would work with travel cos it's not further than other clubs

GSFL Movements

Postby field of dreams » Sat Aug 04, 2012 10:14 am

The gsfl would have to look at any proposal, but I would imagine they would be pretty happy with the even (10 team), strong competition that it already has. Not sure how bringing in a club (Aldinga) that is winless in A's and B's and struggling in junior grades would be seen as any benefit to the league. On the face of it I'm not sure how it would benefit Aldinga either as those 40 goal floggings aren't going to decrease by changing leagues. Meadows are traveling pretty well in comparison but I fear they would still struggle to compete moving from hills country - and an 11 team proposal wouldn't get up surely?

Back when McLaren entered the comp Aldinga were pushing pretty hard to get in as well. GSFL heirachy at the time said that it will always be a 10 team comp (and Aldinga would never be in the GSFL). Saying that the board is almost completely different to 10 years ago. Would be a massive change if the league allowed another team or two to enter, ie rounds, byes (we already have two too close), finals (gounds and top 5/6??). Imagine if they let in one more team and you copped a bye in between association and counrty carnival.

Encounter bay could have missed out on 3rd spot and the valuable double chance going down to mount compass.

Good results in the GSFL yesterday. Nice to see 3 games under 10 points, a 28 point margin which was an upset and the game that a lot would have tipped to be a tight one was the blow out. The SFL and Hills Country each had 3 100+ point margins, we've had 4 for the entire season. Makes for an interesting last few rounds and a bumper finals series

Assuming the score on sporting pulse is right, Creeks have gone down to Yank by 3 points for the 2nd time this season after looking to be home both times.
Pretty sure the scoreboard was showing the Creeks on 12 - 8 at the end of the match as posted by Old New Blue Tiger which showed a 7 point loss. :?
Either way, Yank WON and Creeks LOST. The result could have had a huge bearing on the ladder placings but as a result of Willunga getting out of jail against Strath and E.Bays shock loss to Compass, the result changes nothing for both and the final 5 is basically set.
Barring any monumental upsets in the last 3 rounds, the 1st week of finals will be -

Qualifying Final Sat 1st September @ Mt. Compass

Yankalilla v Langhorne Creek

Elimination Final Sun 2nd September @ McLaren Vale

Encounter Bay v McLaren

Neither McLaren or Bays are capable of winning the flag from the Elim final imo which makes it a 3 horse race for the flag.
Nothing between Will, Yank & Creeks and could be decided by which teams can get their full strength teams on the park on the day.

suggested flag odds

Willunga $2.30
Yank $2.65
Creek $3.30
Bays $26.00
McLaren $151

Compass were sensational yesterday :D !! Im not too convinced with encounter bay switching the ball on every play on a small oval and a 30k wind coming out of the back half.... Davis neal is a gun never the less

Heard an interesting rumour from GSFL hierachy yesterday at Creeks that Bays coach Billy Neely walked out on the club during the week after only 6 players rocked up to training on Tues night. He was apparently talked into returning for the remainder of the year, but one would suggest he wont be there next year... Anyone heard anymore on this????

May have this year mixed up with last year we have had no less than about 25 blokes at training this year. Still not fantastic for two grades, last year we would be lucky to get 6 blokes to training. Attitude has been a big thing at the bay this year and training has been pretty decent all year on both nights. So in answer to your question I think someone has heard wrong

Agree on Davis-Neale, kid can play shame he gave SANFL away so early, but sure he could still make it if he had the desire.

Shaping up to be some good finals with games going down to the wire.

Just remember anything can happen in September if you get a couple of Saturdays with those howling North winds, one bad quarter can cost you the year!
