Season 2013

Postby hearts on fire » Tue Jul 17, 2012 5:45 pm

After another disappointing season, to be expected though, how and what should we do to try and improve for 2013?

Personally need another clean out again, get rid of Westhoff, Pearce, Logan, Phillips, Salopek, Salter, Surjan, Pittard, Hitchcock, Chaplin and Banner. I know not all of them will go, but if we are to improve, most of them need to.

Maybe also try and attract another established player, but what type of player? Another forward would be nice, but can't see us picking up any key forwards, so any player that consistently performs would be good, someone like Brad Ebert.

Pittard, gee that's harsh. Still only a kid & has been smashed by injury. Made some mistakes last year (one famous one against GC) but all in all I thought he was a positive. He's the kind of player we need to keep pumping games into, attempting to fastrack their development.

Westhoff is someone who frustrates the hell out of me... Could be a good player, but only does it when he wants.
Pearce, if he had some currency from another interested team, maybe you'd move him on. Certainly not our worst player atm.
Surjan, I'd keep on. Sets a strong physical example & is rarely beaten.
Chaplin, move him on for hopefully a reasonable pick.
The others mentioned, yeah. Logan possibly retained.

An established player, hmmm, if I had one choice it'd be a good established ruckman. They can really dictate a game for you (Mumford, Cox, Jolly), but no club would give up this kind of player & we want a player that will represent the team for the next 7 to 10 years. So, we just have to keep giving Redden games & developing him.

Developing youngsters is about all we can do, unless we can lure a couple of ex pats back home.
Hopefully a strong couple of years in the draft, to increase our struggling depth & some 'potential' players develop & stay fit.

There's no way whatsoever that Pittard will be de-listed.

May be a very slight chance of a trade though.

I would hope there will be a significant turnover of the list. And some decent recruiting in the off season (drafting and trading).

did we really expect much more than we are getting? Still think we are on track to win 6 maybe 7 games which is improvement. Most games have been really competitive for most of the game. Injuries have really hurt us over the last 3-4 weeks.
Definetely delist Phillips ( Pushed off too easily ), Hitchcock ( same ) Banner and Salter. Time to trade Sal if we can still get something for him. His body is shot. Same with Chappy, should not make as many mistakes as he does for a senior player and he would have some currency. Too bigger gap between his best and his worst.
Westhoff is inconsistent but can be a matchwinner and does run 15 -16 K's per game. Cant believe some people thinks he is lazy. He will win you a game, unlike Chaplin and is a difficult match up for the opposition, unlike Chaplin.
Pearce to stay, can actually break a line.
Pittard, needs to sort his hammies out, but can play and should be persisted with.

Pearce actually looks like he has turned a corner to me, playing half decent this year. Pittard will stay. The rest well yeah, plenty of chances, no return.
