HFL Division 2 (Country)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

I agree gimp, and that's why there should be 3 divs. 9 team comp in div 1, 7 team comp in div 2 and the rest in div 3 which could include the c-grade comp of today. If anyone can field 4 junior teams from div 3 then they can move up to div 2... pretty simple. The bottom 4 clubs currently are the ones that don't have juniors and it's killing the competition, it's also killing them!

This Div 3 (or C grade) is nothing but a pipe dream. Most clubs in Central Div struggle to get a full side on a Sunday, the best numbers are the Saturday games after the A grade. Of the 5 Central Div C grade teams I'd be confident to say 4 of them wouldn't be involved in a stand alone C grade comp. There's already talk from the Central teams that they wanna ditch the Sunday games. It's too much to expect from volunteers to sacrifice both sat and sun. The player numbers suffer simply because sun is a recovery day after sat night for the young ones and the older participants would prefer to spend that time with their families and friends. I can see this comp surviving as a Friday night and Saturday after the A grade concept. This won't make Milang happy but it's the only way C grade will survive from a Central Div point of view. So if you think Central Div teams can send 21 players plus trainers, managers, water boys, goal and boundry umpires elsewhere on a sat seperate from their As and Bs or again on a Sunday... think again. It won't happen.

Fair point Afterthesiren but something has to be done, as in my opinion those 4 clubs that have little junior teams are killing this division and it's not fair for the other clubs.

Nairne versus Kersbrook game called off just after half time due to an injury that occurred during a tackle. Possible neck/back injury with the ambulance called immediately.. I believe the player is still in hospital but will be okay.

Wow, what happened?? Hope the bloke is ok.

On another topic, congratulations to Dwayne Henke on hitting the 100 goal milestone yesterday. I know there will be a few comments about the opposition he has been playing against, but for a bloke to kick 100 goals in 13 games, 2 of which he played in the centre, is a pretty good achievement.

Birdwood oval got chopped up and the wings aren't looking too flash but the centre coridor held up really well.
Nothing compared to the photos of Bridgy oval.........but that's no surprise.

Mick Daniele, sorry about the injury mate but you've been a real trooper for the 4 years you've been there.

What did Daniele do and is it his last game for the Red and Blacks?

A real nasty hamstring injury and think this was going to be his last year at club anyway.

Apparently not as bad as said - perhaps I was set up  - and did play on Saturday.

Any truth to the rumor that Birdwood and Kersbrook are changing the name of the Burns/James Cup this week to McGahey/Miller such has been their dominance this season. These blokes will need an acceptance speech prepared come Mail Medal night.

Owen was seen marking out ovals for the Mods carnivals Saturday at Sedan in the farmers crop paddock next to the oval. Should be good for the kids.

Leave C Grade as it is now and just add Callington. Don't otherwise disturb Div 1 and Div 2 at this stage. Milang will play with a full side whenever or wherever it is. We haven't had a problem with Sunday home games as it gives us a chance to play on dry ground, which we're used to, and most of our boys are local. It's also fair that we get to make some income with a couple of triple-headers. But Div1 clubs don't need to host on Sundays; they have their own means , so C's could feasibly happen mainly on Friday or Saturday nights.
Players win awards. Teams win games. Clubs win Premierships.

I see there was a helicopter flying over Birdwood Oval last Thursday night. Was that McGahey rocking up to training?

With the Four rounds to go looks like the final 5 are set.

Echunga
Kersbrook
Birdwood
Nairne
Meadows

Depending on what happens Saturday (If Kersbrook Beat Echunga etc) first weeks finals would be set, with Kersbrook Vs Bridwood, Nairne Vs Meadows,

How are all the ovals holding up this time of year with all the rain we have had. Any early runners to host the GF?

Are Nairne and Meadows set?

Whats the ruling about a home side hosting the GF? I believe one of the better ovals going around is Echunga at the minute...?

Sedan - Doesnt make sense, too far
Callington - A maybe...
Gums - Why give a club without juniors the income of a GF
Echunga - Ground in good shape
Meadows - Not flash
Birdwood - Held up more recently but can get bogged up, imagine they'd need the coin after securing Switala and co in June.
Kersbrook - ??
Nairne - ??
Maccy - A maybe...
Kangy - Bunch of ferals who will ruin the atmosphere, plus their netballers aply in a different assocaition so you'd think the courts might be off limits.

Nairne & Meadows should be set (But stranger things have happened)
Nairne sitting on 17 Points
Nairnes Run homes is United Eagles (Win), Birdwood (Loss), Echunga (Loss), Sedan Cambrai (Win) - Leaving them on 21
Meadows sitting on on 14 Points
Meadows Run Home is Sedan Cambrai (Win), Macclesfield (Win), Kangarilla (Win), United Eagles (Win) - Leaving them on 22 Points
Only one that could challenge them is Gumeracha on 13 points.
Gumeracha's Run home is Birdwood (Loss), Echunga (Loss), Sedan Cambrai (Win), Macclesfield (Win) - leaving them on 17 Points.

Also in regards to Hosting the Grand Final - It cannot be at the ground of either team playing in the A Grade. I believe this is the only ruling.
You would think Grounds that will get finals would be at this stage:
* Callington (always seem to get one, even though facilities are very poor) and keeps attenance down!
* Macclesfield (Ground looking good and plenty of room for a big crowd - Possible GF)
* Kangarilla (Good Ground and facilities - Possible GF)

You would also think Echunga, Kersbrook & Nairne will get a final just depends on the outcomes of finals to decide which ones they hold.
