I almost feel sorry for her because she is so out of her depth. According to the ABC morning show, she agreed to be interviewed by 5AA because they promised to ask her "soft" questions and that she would appear on the ABC once she had done more research. As Dutchy already mentioned, her response to the community involvement question was gold. Similarly, her response to one of the questions in the 'Tiser this morning shows that she has no idea even about basic issues. She was asked whether she supported a reduction in the current car tarriffs and her reply was, "That's an interesting question because it impacts on the environment so perhaps, if we had some incentive not to use our cars so much we might reduce the impact on the environment." WTF? I really think that the Labor party has misread the public with this one. I'm glad I don't live in that electorate. There might be a silver lining though - not sure she would be allowed to continue with her weekly diatribe.

Well, I'm off to the local shopping centre, oops, I mean "do some community work by spending money locally".

The only thing you can do - you'll have to vote Green and then direct your preferences to any non-zealot independents or vice versa then the Labor party so that at least you're not directly voting for the current Mrs Cornes. Southcott attracted 48% of the primary vote in the last election so presumably he'll be returned. Alternatively, if you are a dyed in the wool Labor man, you could vote for Mrs Cornes and keep it between you and your priest.

If this thread is any indication lots of people who ordinarily would be voting Labor will now be looking elsewhere. Installing puppet celeb politicians is about as cynical as you can get and pays little respect to the intelligence of the electorate. Boo!

This thread is proof that it was a good move by the ALP.

It has 32 replies, yes not all or even most are positive, however consider the seat of boothby it is the 6th most marginal seat out of 11 seats in Australia (Hindmarsh, Makin, Adelaide, Wakefield, Kingston) are all more marginal. This means that a very small % of money will be going to seats like boothby where there is only an outside chance of being elected.

Therefore you need a away to campaign cheap, a media personality is one of the best ways to do that.

Furthermore having a journo from the advertiser running for the alp wont harm how the alp is reported by the tiser.

Firstly she ain't a journalist. Columnist maybe but like her husband, not a qualified journalist. That's another job she got because of who she is and what she looks like. When Big Kim and Mark Latham both had their goes at getting elected, they visited S.A all of once during the election campaign. Lathams contribution was to sit in a cafe in Colonades and turn his nose up at being offered a frog cake!

Labor every election make two mistakes, one being that they focus on the seats in NSW rather than SA, two being that the adjust their policy in order to get Greens preferences. This resulted last time in Latham happily agreeing to scrap the jobs of timber workers in Tassie. The result being CFMEU workers cheering Howard when he visited there promising to secure their jobs.

The only Labor gain that is realistic is Kingston (outer south) which they should never have lost in the first place. If Labor want more than that they need to correct the way they view SA in a hurry!
