Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

The Crumber wrote:If anyone is interested in Country Div. stuff, I saw Gummy play Cally todayat Gummy; probably amongst the most atrocious conditions I've seen over the years. Megarain falling, road conditions very scary and visibility zero. Not possible to leave the car and couldn't see the scoreboard. However, amid all this was a really good contest with both sides very committed. Nice to see lots of youngsters out there in both teams and the endevour shown couldn't be faulted. Pissed down beyond description for the entire 100 minutes. Final score was Eagles 4-7 to Gummy 1-6. First Eagles A grade win for a couple of years I think. I suppose everyone will assume this happened because Gummy are struggling more than ever this year, but seriously, neither club deserves to fill a bottom spot. Full credit to all players for performing so tenaciously and giving everyone their money's worth. I've been wading through the endless anecdotes of paid HFL players via this site and squirming about the way it's all happened in recent years. Good luck to all on the field at Gummy today anyway. Now and then my naive grassroots footy stuff gives me a shot in the arm to go on with!

That was great to hear Crumber the wet weather certainly brought the teams closer and was real "Hills" footy. I was at Ironbank from Senr Colts through to end of A's and it did not stop raining all day. Good to see young gun Ash Fuller get best for the Gums.
What has happened to Cally's young gun Wayne Slee what is he up to this year.? Another one that can really play if he can keep his head.

On wet weather footy the players that really stand out are those in and under gutsy players who through themselves on the ball and try to take on the opposition with first to the ball stuff each club has them and Saturday would have been a good time to have them in your team. Sometimes they get pushed to the sweets because of a perceived lack of pace.
Who is each clubs best at this?

TWE - am I allowed to mention 'Mt Lofty', or has there been too much talk about the weekends games?
I personally have always invited comments re all teams, because we all can't be at every game.
Crumber - nice round up, and I think you're right, Cally wouldn't have won a game for years. Good on them. But those 2 teams will fill the bottom 2 spots.
Echunga look like a real threat though. Rowsell from the EP still playing well. He is a very good player.
Well done to Onkas, but to be fair, it was anyone's and I thought that the Devs had more of the ball but didn't use it. Really missed Fleet, Wait and Gordon up forward. But Onkas ALWAYS had at least one person FRONT & SQUARE when a ball came into their backline, then worked it out. But it often fell down across the middle. But they were a tough side.
I really hope when they play next, that it's dry. That'd be good for footy.

yes it was very wet at the thunder dome on sat i was soaked through after the warm ups but it was enjoyable to be beating a team we have struggled with in the past in both a and b grade !!
alaska the blokes you refer to re.in and under players best for ib are a.grade daniel (helmet) exelby and matty(howser)howe and b.grade peter(donks)sodomka and john(dogger)creek as you said these blokes stand out a mile in wet as skills become more noticable :D :D :D

He was good at the centre taps on saturday (vs. bridgewater) but the problem was he put it straight down his opponents throats. Around the ground he was average when it came to push and shove but got better as the game went on. Great win by bridgy b's

So the weather caused a couple of upsets with Onkas beating Lofty and Echunga beating Kangarilla!!

Or are they just better sides?

On another matter, how did all the ovals hold up in the hills? A mate told me the the Birdwood oval had a small stream running through the middle of it but didn't cut-up and turn into a mud pit - apparently the grass held pretty well.

Gimp, lofty held up ok considering we had all of the days rain which other games were played in and then the extra rain from 5-9.30 which we were in. bit roughed up down the middle corridor but overall not too bad. could definatelt do with a couple of dry training nights this week though, but doesnt look like that will happen..

Lofty was a dead set swimming pool in some spots. But like GTS said, a few dry days and it should be fine. Mud didn't seem to be a factor, just massive puddles of water everywhere.
Hahndorf 9.20...could have been a pretty big win.
SL and Ron - do you think Kluzek and whatever recruits haven't played yet ( I believe not all of them have) can get you guys some points?

9.20 half those were rushed. kluzek "and his merry men" (as i've heard them called) should snag us a few points for sure. The problem is we've only had a few of these new blokes on the park at any one time. It will happen just watch and wait for the bridgy beast to be unleashed

no kluzek def playing as for the others don't no if the club signed them, but the ones that have been playing making a diff. supposably the raiders were up in the a grade at half time but as usual always fade away in last half. pretty sure they will get a few wins under the belt over the season

Ironbank held up really well. No muddy spots. The water jst runs down the hill. genius idea! :D I'd hate to have been playing at bridgy

Did the fog roll in at all the other grounds also? By 445ish it was impossible to see. I remember playing onto myself from the kick ins then realising i could not see who i was kicking too haha

TWE. you could add one W. Muirden to your list of in and unders in the A grade. Shouldve been in the best easily on the weekend!

So any changes to peoples presumed ladders after 2 rounds? I havent done one yet but i'd say Lofty, Onkas, Uris, Blacky, IB, Loby, Hahn, Barker, Bridgy, Bird.

Heard a rumour that for training last thursday night, birdwood spent the 2 hours performing an ancient navahoe indian rain dance to thwart Uraidla's expected world record goal kicking attempt. It worked, and I think Blackwood might adopt this tactic for the remainder of the season because they will be tough to beat if we have a really wet winter with their set up. Well done to onkas too, from what I saw it was an honest, even contest with both clubs smashing in at every opportunity, Onka's big targets just didn't get any smaller which straightened Onkas up. Good on Muffy too, for the record, I never bagged HIM, if anyone I was bagging the blokes that were talking him up like they were his PR representetives before runs were on the board. I like seeing good players running around, and I'm the first to recognise ANY team's good players when their performances warrant it.

Warrant it?

Postby Big Fulla » Mon Apr 30, 2007 5:53 pm

Warrant it, like some never been gets to judge when a 'gun' warrants recognition. Guns dont need their efforts warranted, if you wanna do anything, just record player of the round stats or something. Do something relevant that gives the rest of us some insight, based on statistics.

Who gives a rats about some tools opinion, validating guns who need no validation, theyve been validated long before you saw em, particularly Muff!

Jeez...
BF - I think what you've read on here is just people who haven't seen Muff before, reserving their judgement til they do see him play.
I think everyone would agree that the more good players that enter the HFL, the better. But if some of us haven't SEEN him play, we'll wait til we do before talking the bloke up.
