I see some late clearances went through for Blackwood. Looks like they picked up Rhys Sporn and Paul Elisseou from West Adelaide. Rhys is the son of Kieran Sporn. Wonder what price those two cost them, it would also make points tight I'd imagine and may even mean some U17s sit on the bench. I was also told the Blackwood coach is gone at the end of the season, many weren't happy he was appointed in the first place.

Just throwing the question to Central teams how are you crap ovals holding up
Down in Country Div all ovals have been quite good for competive games
Perhaps you guys need to spend less on your players and more on ovals and facilities
Look forward to any positive comments

i agree with the sentiment regarding facilities, however the state of the ovals is more to do with the council than the clubs.

the state of the playing surface is one of the few things that a club can't control and is based on issues such as soil, rainfall, drainage, number of junior teams, etc - so save the cheap shots.

also, i think you'll find that most country clubs also spend on players.

Sweetlips, you're probably going to cop some stick from the sensitive types, but to answer your question Mt Barker's home ground is a bit sloppy. In Central Div there are good and bad grounds. I've heard that Ironbank is in great nick but Bridgewater is a bog heap. IMHO Lobethal is the best ground in the comp but I don't know how it is holding up with the rain we've had.

Yep whiteline I realize that but the sensitive types can please themselves
just tossing up the question
Good point mentioned about Div 2 clubs spending money
So I assume most Div 1 clubs spend their money on the grounds and facilities
Any responses would be appreciated

Country div has some pretty good surfaces, Kersbrook oval up there with the best in the League, Echunga like a bowling green with Gumeracha up there with Ironbank to win the 'most improved' surface award for the season !

I've never seen Echunga oval but if it's a 'bowling green' like Sniper says that means Central Div would also pick up another good playing surface if Echunga is promoted.

With no disrespect to my own club or even down the road at Hahndorf, I can never work out why Lobethal has not hosted more Grand Finals. Lobey oval is BIG and that means fast open footy, it has a lovely flat surface and enormous car parking on that outer wing.....but....if the GF is at home and the Roos are in it, I won't be complaining.

You wouldn't think they should cost too much if they are no longer required even to play reserves. But, I bet they get paid a lot more than what they would get in the reserves at Westies

Sweetlips - you asked the same question twice & it seems pretty loaded. YES Central spends on player but like Gervais said the council in some (not all I'd imagine) has a say & on p%ssing down days with full juniors plus perhaps C grade it's hard to keep a bowling green. Admittedly some aren't great.
Maybe I should get out to one of these competitive games where players don't get paid.

Both Paul and Rhys will be handy inclusion for the woods, Elisseou is an interesting one, is an import from the WAFL who was struck down by injuries his size and strength will suit contested hills footy.

I was told both are getting $600 a game each. Elisseou would be a 4 point player and Sporn a 3 point player I take it... doesn't leave a lot of room when you only have 10 points to play with. Wouldn't Blackwood be better off bleeding some of their kids and building a side from local strength for a change. I see Lofty have taken this avenue and who did they beat last round?? Now it looks like 2 local A graders will be dropped to the Bs, 2 B graders dropped to the Cs and 2 blokes looking for another club. Typical Blackwood.

I agree, ATS. If someone from Blackwood could shed some light on what they're trying to gain, I'm all eyes. Blackwood won't make finals & won't get relegated (if that situation comes into fruition) so this is an opportune time to blood youngsters & be more of a force next year. You're including these guys at a total of around $9,500 for what? I guess one thought might be to 'snap them up' & if they enjoy it there you've got them next year.

Funny thing is no-ones jumping to defend the current coach. His job is as good as gone after just 10 rounds.

Couple of big games this weekend.

Match of the day I reckon is Barkeroos vs Bankers. Undefeated team vs a team that will bite you on the clacker if you take them lightly. I'm sticking with Roos by 32 points.

Call me silly, but I reckon the other 'big' game is Lobey vs TV. Heaps riding on this....TV would be desperate to stay in touch with the top 5 and Lobey would be getting more than a little bit nervy about Lofty, Bridgie and the relegation zone. TV by 18 points.

Blackwood are at home against Onkas and if you believe everything on this forum about the Woodsmen you'd swear they're a basket case. I'm not so sure about that and I reckon they'll push Onkas but the Doggies class will win. Dogs by 30.

It's the Maggies at home against Bridgie and we all want the Raiders to do well. The Bridgie boys have some heart but the Magpies will win well. Pies by 70.

I feel like a goose that I have not tipped the Devs in the last two weeks so I thought "Bugger it, I'm picking them this week." Then I looked at the draw.....Uris vs Lofty at the Cabbage Patch. Uris by 40 and I'll pick the Devs another week.

looking forward to the barkeroos v thunder game this week on a SLOW7 track - they gave us a good run on their home ground - tough hard hitout in atrocious conditions - barkeroos will not want to take lightly - still to be undefeated with a 5-6 goal win in the end

TV to win over Lobey - and still keep their slimmest of hopes to make the finals but still be 2 games and % out of the 5

Onkas over the Woods by about 4 goals to stay 5th or 4th depending on %

Magpies over Bridgewater by 8 goals - get them back onto the winners list and outright 3rd

Uri's over a gallant Lofty - showing some spark but I think Uris now building towards the finals run home will be too good on their home patch - 8 goals
