That's one of the reasons I got out of running any business that employed anyone in the late 1980s.
I was sick of being ripped off by people I was paying more than was left over for me and my wife in both an Art & Craft Gallery and a management business in that tight financial time.

Then I stuck to Medicine, but dumped employing my own staff in favour of a serviced suite, and started, later, a computer dealership that involved only me and one trustworthy partner.

Not sure, did you read :

Careful what you say - as being a threat?

They are underpaid and just making a little extra on the side - Stealing from your employer ( struggling financially employer ) to supplement your income is ok?

I actually resent that slander - what address should my lawyers use?

In fact the IT business had to undercut the competition, and margins were rarely more than 10% in the industry in Melbourne, except in accessories which we didn't sell as we did not run a shop front operation.
An old friend who ran "Systems" in Gilles St here in Adelaide for years made 10% on average.
So, I'm amazed at the large margins some of the outlying computer dealers up here in the hills apply now.

The medical fees were usually somewhere between the Medicare MBS and the AMA recommended fee structure.
They were made clear in writing days or weeks before the patient attended so that they could arrange to go elsewhere if they wanted to.
(That was possible because I was usually booked out 2-3 weeks ahead.)

I'm not sure a winkie would make it not slander at law unless the joke component was visibly there to be called attention to by the winkie, and it isn't..
However the joke component of mine is there, even without a winkie, as you are obviously not going to give me an address!

The amount of people that don't have tickets on trains, you spot em a mile away, they poke their head in the door, look around, see no inspector and think they're a mafia boss coz they got out of paying $3 to get them home.
It's a vast variety of culprits too.

I got on at Alberton one day, check the wallet / pockets and had nothing smaller than a $20. Spoke to the inspector on board ( I approached him ) and explained my situation.

Inspector - "Didnt you have any change at home?"

"Errr, no, I've notes here in my wallet"

Inspector - "So what was your plan?"

"Well, I've got about $100, so when I get to the city I'll pay at the window"

Inspector - "Well, you should plan your trips a little better then, shouldn't you?"

So I didnt get arrested, I sat down biting my lip....

My multitrip ticket doesn't work in the newer machines, I've been waiting for it to not work when there's an inspector so I can get it attended to, I don't catch a train very often but it is cheap and close to where I live and where I need to travel to quite often.
So many people just blatantly board a train with no intention to purchase a ticket. It's a pretty good deal really, you can travel 100+km's for $3 something.
