Problem is that it would get lost with all the other endless complaints about umpiring Thebarton gets each week....

Point being that Thebarton gets minimal formal complaints about umpiring as everyone puts their $0.02 on here!

Working on it within the official channels as well - even if it isn't really my place. Just trying to get collaborative with some of the other clubs in Divvy 7 that I know have faced the same issue.

What better place than the wonderfully social and community focussed forum that is SA Footy. ;)

Yeah exactly. It needs to be a joint, collaborative, mutual presentation of understanding from a group of clubs, not just the once off "waaah, this umpire sucks!" rant which I am sure they get dozens of a week.

Play hard but fair boys.

I'm going to encourage that they rest Chambo as much as possible Yank Man, because it will only take him a couple of weeks to overtake my goal tally.

Haha.... well said Bobby!! Should be a forward line that can share the goals across 4-5 for the rest of the year one thinks with the players still to come in!!!

Let's hope so. I didn't think there was anyone else from Gullies on here, but you must be if you call me Bobby.

I didn't realise a complaint was put in from our club. I just vented some of my frustration on this forum.

Postby forloveofthegame » Mon Jul 02, 2012 4:41 pm

The Angle Vale v Modbury game 2 weeks ago had issues also. The Angle Vale umpire umpired the D7R where he spent majority of the game in AV forward half - which i'm led to believe is against SAAFL rules for club umpires. This was questioned numerous times throughout the game without any result. He then umpired the D7 game and the question was raised to both umpires as he is realistically not a neutral umpire. However as he is 'technically' a SAAFL appointed umpire for D7 he is permitted to umpire the game. In saying that if he wasn't umpiring the D7R each week for the club he would be allocated neutral games for D7.

This does need to be sorted out through the League as it appears that most if not all opposing club are having problems in D7.

As much as the umpiring is a problem, Angle Vale this year seem to be far from the club they were last year with the new D7 coach commending and applauding players for their onfield violence. This was demostrated when an AV player was sent off for king hitting a Modbury player and the coach voiced his support of the act loud enough for the Modbury coaches box to hear.

Lets add Modbury to the list of clubs. Ken the Poor bloke!

Can I just reiterate that I am not trying to instigate a witch hunt against Brett. As I said, absolutely a competent umpire ... just not for AV in the A's/C's. Perception is leading to violence unfortunately.

Sam Fairclough played a pretty handy game on the weekend, 50-odd touches and 7 goal 3

I think Henley will be hoping he can do that against some of the stronger sides.

Our coach tried to let the umpires department no about a very good umpire we had a couple of weeks a go, some postive feed back...but they never returned the call.

Game was played in some spite but in general a good battle. Lucky for us MP did not kick straight. the Vale battle hard with two players playing two games due to pull outs and injury has hit us bad with some of our quality players unavailable.
Vale has tuff week ahead if they wanna stay in the 5.
And i think that MP will come back to the pack and have some tougher games in the future.

Nice to know both coaches were at the same game BPwizard. Think gutterboy has a personal agenda with the said No. Maybe it's his IQ and he can't move on. When it gets to 17 gutterboy, SELL.

no probs yank....i dont have a personal agenda with #16 as i dont know the guy or any of the MP players...i have seen 2 games of MP this year and it was the same number again...was quite laughable actually yank man...!!!!

Sorry Footy Chick but morrell is on his own with this one. The bench had no real issue with the said umpire and he did the best he could under difficult circumstances. If we had a problem then I would be the first to submit a formal complaint, trust me. The real issue is their is a "minimal" element at Angle Vale that set it going and don't get enough disciplinary measures for their actions. The "majority" are great lads as we experienced in the bar for an hour after the game where players from both teams made their formal apologies to each other. Seriously I would not want to be their club umpire and with a good chat with him in the rooms after the game you get the feeling he is at his witsend.

Fair call Morrell, i have and players have mentioned it puts brett in a terrible situation that he umpires b grade as club umpire and then umpires A grade as a SAAFL umpire. i and quite a few players have said same as you that he would be better umpiring higher grades. But i don t think his umpiring has resulted in a win for Angle Vale in anyway and i think if people looking in from a neutral supporter of both teams would say he can sometimes be harder on the Vale players.
But if your club or any other club who has a problem with Angle Vale situation, had it reversed that it was ur or there club with the umpiring situation, you would be the club taking all the crap over this i believe it is wrong aswell but, it is easier for other clubs and supportes to have a witch hunt online in a forum.

As for the game on saturday the first all in started from a high tackle on the MP player, who then retaliated ( which i would have done aswell) but the both players from each team come in and caused a bigger reaction and i was suprised only one player sent off with most likely 20 players involved. i seen another vale player throw a few punches and a few MP players aswell so was suprised only the one sent off. The other umpire on the day did not want to try and controll the game i think brett try to controll it and i have no problems with his calls. And as for our captain being sent of twice that will be dealt with by the leadership group as that is not tolerated at Angle Vale Football Club.

And as for the so called modbury game where modbury tryed to come out and rough up the smaller Vale players, which back fired and the score lined showed that. with the events about the player who was king hit which a king hit to me is like a sniper but when hit face to face is a fight. The tribunal took care of that matter and the player recieved 1 week as it was classed at the lower end of the scale, the so called abuse from the coach was directed at the umpire to get the game going again as the player leaving the field with the trainers with no blood or stretcher used the play can not be held up to by umpire. And the comment was lets get the game going not our fault he wanted to sleep on the oval. And with the modbury coach winging about the umpiring all game it does start to piss me off as Brett is not to blame for the situtation that everyone feels is wrong the club and league have put him in. Two many people wanna wing and i believe thats why a few things where said to the modbury coach thru the game.

I think everyone should stop whinging about brett as he is not on this forum to defend himself, and pretty low of people to complain and judge someone behind there back. If you have issues take it up with the league or contact the president of Angle Vale i am sure he is happy to listen to any complaints. I have seen worst umpires in this d7 comp and none talks about them with there name splatted over the pages.

We dont have a game without the umps and i don t think in d7 a couple of bad calls are gunna cost a game.

Fair enough, but it does put your club in a compromising position and "attitude reflect leadership captain".
