The heads/tentacles will just rip off and combine into a big ball.
The tubes won't need any cleaning, might need to scrape the back flaps and thats it.
Negative is that you won't have squid rings, but strips instead. All tastes the same! 8)

That's all well & good if you have no use for the heads & tentacles I guess... ;)

My kids won't eat it unless it looks like "restaurant squid"..

Dutchy wrote:Got out on Saturday in the boat at Port Hughes, got nothing in the Bay so headed around the cape as we heard from neighbours that there was some big KGW around there, was 5 boats near our spot but nothing really being caught, within half hour everyone else had cleared out and about 10 mins later everything came on the bite! Mixture of Sweep, big Leather Jackets, red mullet, tommies, undersized snapper and some nice big KG's.

Ended up with 10 KG's all over 40cm, before we ran out of light. Trip back to the ramp was a bit rough in a tinny as the wind had come up a bit while we were out there but well worth it.

Couple of snaps below, as you can see the ramp was pretty busy!

As i have mentioned i have a good contact at Hughes.
Best time to fish is from 4pm onwards in the bay.
He bagged out again (36) from 3.30pm and was back at the ramp at 5.15pm last Friday.
Thats good action.
Idiot me went to Broughton but at least the wife was happy.

Anyone going to the boat show? I had a look through the window last night and there were some impressive rigs.

Also thinking is it worth it dusting the old shark off and having a shot near the torrens inlet...don't know if we have had enough rain to pump some dead carp into the ocean. Don't think there would be any large toothy critters, maybe some elephants.

When is it? I'm keen on getting a kayak for fishing this summer. Might venture out to gather some info.

Better off trying to pick one up second hand. Bloody expensive brand new. Worth I guess if you've got the time though.

You can get something that floats for $300. You don't need to spend heaps, when you are spending 2k on a yak you are getting every extra possible, unless you are getting a hobie. Check out this site www.akff.net/ those guys are hardcore yakkers.

This is the one I'm looking at

A shop in Sydney has this one for $1900 Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160 including anchor and rod holders. Only need to get a paddle/PFD and some gear and I'm set.

probably also need to get some roof rack attachments as well

Looks good, I would recommend putting a milk crate behind the seat to store your gear. Gives you something to lean back onto as well if you get lazy.

Yeah roof racks are a pain in the a***

What sort of fishing are you looking to indulge in with the kayak, Heater?

Reason I ask is you could potentially pick up a 2nd hand tinny for the same outlay, particularly if you're looking at using it in the salt more often than not. Some ignorant yakkers (particularly on the akff forum.. ) will argue otherwise, but be buggered if you could get me on a 'yak in the briny after reading some of these REAL LIFE encounters with GW's..

If you're planning to target waterways like West Lakes, The Onka and the mangrove systems of The Port, a 'yak is a great idea.. ;) Food for thought. 8)

Main reasons are storage and ease of transport. I have nowhere to store a tinny or be bothered with registering boat & trailer.

I have access to a fibre glass tub but it is a 7 hour drive to the west coast to use it :(

I don't mind a feed of garfish or tommies would be the main species targeted here in Adelaide. Other times just leave the gear at home and go paddling for fitness.

During Xmas break might tow it behind the big boat so we can fit extra people on fishing trips.

Get a yak, notice a similar pattern with all those shark attacks Goat Herder? They all happened at dawn and dusk when GW's like to feed.

If you go out in the middle of the day off an Adelaide beach you will be fine, you should have no problem getting a feed of gar and tommies. Would only have to go out a couple of hundred metres as well.
