News from the Eagles this morning that sadly Bob Hank has passed away...

RIP and condolonces to the Hank family...

Eagles Member Email wrote:It is with great sadness that the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club advises that Life Governor and Australian Football Hall of Fame member Bob Hank passed away this morning after a short illness.

Bob was a much revered figure in our Club’s history, being a 2 time premiership player, an 9 times best and fairest winner and 2 time Magarey Medallist.

Chairman Kurt Slaven said “Bob Hank’s on field record is immense but those that were lucky enough to know him will agree that he was a champion bloke. The Woodville West Torrens Football Club and the football community have lost a true legend. His ability to engage with persons from all walks of life was Bob’s charm and way in bringing people together. He will be sadly missed by all.”

“Today is a very sad day for the Woodville-West Torrens Football Club and the code of Australian Rules Football.”

Our thoughts are with Bob’s wife Audrey and the entire Hank family at this time.

The Club will advise Funeral details once confirmed.

Its very sad news. Bob did not miss to many games and was alway willing to lend advise to young players. remember sitting next to him alot at the games. was a very proud Eagles supporter and the GF wins. I was too young to ever see him play. but speaking with people that played with him they can not speak higher of his ability and they way he went about life. absolute champion and legend. The greatest eagle will live on for ever. Thoughts go out to the Family.

Condolences to family and friends, it's just a pity that the passing of a true champion of the game such as Bob Hank will be lost on the national football public with the rewriting of history according to the AFL.

Sad news. Condolences to his family and those at the Eagles footy club who held him in the highest regard.

Was lucky enough to attend the Bob Hank tribute night a few years ago. Was a great night and he was certainly an out and out champion and in the absolute top bracket of footballers in South Australia. He was my Poppa's favourite player. His support of the Eagles since the merger has been so important as well. Seemed like a great bloke. His contribution will never be forgotten and he will be a legend of Aussie Rules Football for eternity. RIP.

Agree with Schimma.

Bob Hank will be dearly missed by the Eagles and remember as the GREATEST Eagle.

I understand a service will be held at Football Park June 21 at 2PM

If memory serves correct he actually made his debut for Port-Torrens.

I hope to see a lot of black arms bands this week as Bob Hank is in the AFL & SANFL Hall of Fame. It would be good if both AFL clubs also extended the gesture in honour of their heritage.

The club I play for wears the West Torrens jersey and Im quite honoured to wear one of his former numbers (5)

Some great comments in the Adelaide Now story, particularly the one about the young lad seeking autographs. What a great footballer, cricketer and more importantly what a top bloke.

Sad day for Torrens people everywhere.
