[quote="Aerie"]The two reports were nothing more than the umpires fretting over some physicality and the umpiring for the entire game was diabolical. In general the Eagles may have got the better of it as well but the inconsistency and interpretations are a massive issue./quote]

An excellent summation Aerie. Nothing in either incident from where I stood.

The umpires interpretation of HTB is mind boggling.

Happy to get the two points but, we are on a hiding to nothing in the next two games if we don't put in a 4 qtr effort!

Mick Godden was on 5AA tonight saying that until the mathematics indicate the Eagles can't make the finals, he still believes his side can win the Premiership. If and when they can't make it, he will start planning for 2013.

I didn't hear it, but Norwood Footy Ops Manager Mark Ross was on the AA Show tonight and 'clarified' the comments made by Bassett after the loss.

Can anyone that was listening post what Rossy said Bass meant?

Umpires crap, yes, but not biased. Inconsistent and surreal in the application of the rules all day.

Glenelg good, yes, but not outstanding. Slept through the first term, let the Eagles back into the game in the third. An average effort with room for improvement.

But the Eagles?

Oh. My. God.

I am thoroughly gobsmacked that this is the same mob which nudged out the 'dogs for last year's flag. Their forwards were wasteful in the extreme - so in the periods when the Eagles were dominant (yes, they had their share of the play) it did not show on the scoreboard. Defensive players more concerned with going the niggle on their immediate opponents than playing the game.

Seriously, what happened?

Kirkby report as comical and bewildering as the one sided umpiring which is pretty much stock standard when playing this lot. How are they bottom with the ride they get???
Granted they should have been 5 goals up at QT, but after that the Bays were first to the footy and harder at it .

Finally, I understand cheer squads serve a great purpose and are a part of our game but I had the misfortune of walking past the wwt cheer squad today with my wife and daughter in pram and we copped an unprovoked verbal from 2 things straight out of "The Deliverance". Good to see in breeding is alive and well.

Dutchy wrote:Only got there for the second half but thought the Eagles went way too wide with all their attacks forward, hence many of their points came from kicking out of the pockets. They had plenty of the ball as the scoring shots indicates however Glenelg looked more switched on and dangerous in attack.

Pretty happy esp with a few of our kids getting plenty of the ball against some big bodies.

And thanks to big Wazza for giving my 5yo a ball after the game, cant wipe the smile of his face!

Agree Dutchy, can't recall missing too many absolute sitters, but had average percentage shots or worst, whereas the Bays played more direct footy, hitting the dangerous spots up forward, and most of their goals were from simpler shots. This is partly due to personnel, Kirkby was impressive, but also due to some ordinary game plan IMO. First 1/4 against Sturt we kicked it long to 20mts out, and gave Grocke a chance to use his body or else read the play better. Today, just about every time we were going forward, we went short to the half-forward line.

Actually quite enjoyed the game because I thought both sides had a real dip, but geez it was frustrating to waste so many opportunities. Bays have got a great team coming through, and should be right up within a couple of years. For the Eagles, thought Sumner was good, improving at least, Shirley and Parry reasonable, and Lane and Kane early showed a little bit.

Umpiring was at times mid-boggling, but any team that got the two HTB's in the North-east pocket on 1/4 time and then early in the second doesn't have too much to complain about. ;)

Went to the game today and didn't think the umpiring was too bad. Certaintly seen alot worse this year. There was a guy in the outer who seemed to think that the eagles were absolutely shafted though.

Eagles were wasteful while the bays took their opprtunities better.

Still think South will win the wooden spoon.

Sorry smac, interpreted the post as "I was a guy in outer" not "there was a guy in the outer" - neither was stated though clever man.
