Women have a lot to live up to after my second wife whom I was married to for 24 years, until she died in 2008.

There is one I've been seeing occasionally since I've been back in SA, who is gradually whinging to me more and more about her life, as she drops her guard on how she presents herself.
I think she thinks we have reached the stage where I will offer to fix it all for her.
It is wearing a little thin, and I can see the (gentle) flick coming on...

It reminds me of a women my wife and I knew years ago who used to employ a lot of people in her own business.
She used to say, "People can keep up their act for about 18 months, then you see what they are really like and can decide whether to keep them on."

in all seriousness, does she actually want you to "fix" things for her, or does she just want you to listen? i think i read something a while ago (no link sorry) that seemed to say that when women tell a man all of their problems, they dont actually want them to do anything about them, they just want the bloke to listen. whereas the blokes normal reaction is to want to "fix" the situation as that is what they are genetically programmed to do. something about the evolutionary differences between men and women

i know when my missus has complained of a situation at work she has gotten quite upset at me when i have suggested that i could go and threaten to belt the idiot causing the problem ;)

You may be right - I just find the repetition a bit hard to take.
I am on the extreme masculine edge of the psychological tests and into "fix it once, and so it stays fixed"..

My wife was one of those women who just dealt with issues instead of complaining and called me in to back her up only if the going got a bit heavy.
Her call was "Dragon alert!" - our deal was that I slayed dragons and she cleaned and cooked them.

Tradies became officially "dragons" if they behaved aggressively when she tried to deal with them - otherwise she took care of it.
Mind you she had been in charge of a section in Centrelink (then DSS in the mid 1970s) when I met her, when she was aged 29.
